Matthew McPhalen holds a Bachelor of Music Degree specializing in cello performance from the University of British Columbia where he studied with Eric Wilson. He then completed his Master of Music Degree at the University of Calgary, where he studied with John Kadz and Johanne Perron. While in Calgary he also spent four years in the Advanced Performance Program at Mount Royal University Conservatory. Matthew has frequently attended summer sessions at Domaine Forget and the Orford Arts Centre in Quebec where he had the privilege to learn from artists such as Lynn Harrell and Raphael Wallfisch. Maxime has always listened and been attracted by music since early childhood, Maxime started the electric bass at the age of 12. From the beginning, Maxime got involved in several Rock, Punk and Metal bands before deciding to study in the Jazz-Pop music program at André-Laurendeau high school. Discovering a new interest in Jazz and Blues, he decided to invest in a variety of musical trainings, at which point he began learning a second instrument: the double bass. Michael began his musical career at the age of 4 by learning the piano. He has since gone on to continue his musical education from being accepted into the Performing Arts program at O’Neill C.V.I and culminating in his acceptance to the renowned Berklee College of Music in 2011. It was at Berklee that Michael explored many different styles of music becoming proficient in contemporary, pop, rock, jazz, classical and Latin genres. Michelle Vallance is a resident of St. Marys, Ontario. At the age of 8, her parents enrolled her in piano studies, exams and competitions which she continued to the age of 23. In university, she studied at the Royal School of Church Music in Croydon England, and, with the University of Windsor Chamber Choir, performed at Carnegie Hall in New York under the direction of British composer John Rutter. Mitch has been teaching guitar since 2002. He’s a graduate of the Red Deer College music program, has studied classical guitar through the Royal Conservatory of Music (3 time Gold Medalist for levels 7, 8, and 9), and has a Diploma in Jazz Performance from the London College of Music. He has studied with some of Edmonton’s finest instructors, and in L.A. with Greg Howe (a touring guitarist for Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake). Monika Kowalczuk is an active musician, instructor and performer for special occasions. She earned her BA in Music at the King’s College in Edmonton. With 20 years of training and teaching experience, she has been exposed to various styles and genres of music. She is involved in piano, harp, organ, voice, theory, ear training, harmony, choral music, various forms of dance, including ballroom, theatre, leading and attending workshops, planning and organizing events and performances.
