Norm has been playing guitar for 40+ years and teaching/performing for over 20 years. He co-developed the guitar teaching program at Simply Guitars in Ottawa in 2006 where he taught for almost ten years.
Utilizing the 12 bar blues styles and CAGED system have been very effective in helping students establish a technical foundation from which they can branch off into rock, pop, metal, country and jazz etc. He believes in a relaxed but structured learning environment, utilizing both theoretical and hands-on approaches, and enjoys teaching anyone from the complete novice to the seasoned player looking to expand their horizons. His personal philosophy also includes talking about the history and origins of songs, styles, performers, instruments etc.
Norm is interested in playing in many idioms; favourites include blues, slide guitar, jazz, folk, rock, world, classical--these influences can be heard in his Ottawa-based instrumental trio "Butterflies and Zebras".

Pam started studying piano at age 4 and a half and was on the specialized courses at the RCM starting at age 6. At age 6 she started participating in festivals and concerts across Ontario. She is a highly experienced teacher and holds an ARCT degree in Piano Pedagogy from the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), teaching beginner up to level 10 piano, and all levels of Theory. Pam’s father, Frank Wharram, was a national examiner and adjudicator for the RCM, and her mother, Barbara Wharram, is the author of 2 best-selling rudiments theory books, and also worked for the RCM. Pam has performed with the RCM Orchestra and York Symphony Orchestra, and she won the provincial silver medal for 3 consecutive years for highest marks in Ontario and Quebec. Pam loves working with both children and adults! She worked as the Senior Section Director for the East York YMCA Day Camps, as well as North York YMCA. She has additional experience working for the DDSB with special needs children. Her goal as an educator is to help students develop a sense of pride and dedication towards learning. Father of five musicians, Pat has a Certificate in Arranging and Composition from the Berklee College of Music, has gigged with many of the top names in the musical universe, and is mentor to some of the best musicians in Atlantic Canada. He was the main host of the CBC Rock Camp series and also sings, writes, produces, and is a top session player. He is one of the founders and the current director of Summer Rock Camp. Shortly after picking up his kid sister’s abandoned guitar at the age of 13, Paul began concentrating on drums. By 15, he was already teaching in a marching band, as well as at Berger Music in Richmond, England. Shortly after graduating high school, Paul became a full-time touring drummer, a career he pursued until he acquired the Milestone Percussion (now known as Tempus Drums) business in 1985. Between ‘85 and ‘13 he custom built almost 7500 unique drums; these days he’s more musically active than ever, teaching, writing, recording and performing music, as well as through his activities as a music advocate, music therapist and special needs EA with the North Vancouver school district. Paul Mayer (Piano) Registration Request
Paul Mayer is an active performer, accompanist and composer proficient in classical and pop/rock styles. As a teacher, he believes in striving for an equal balance of technique, musicianship, and sheer enjoyment! Paul received his Honours Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto, with a major in music history and theory and a minor in composition. While at U of T, he developed a remarkable knack for playing pop and rock music by ear, while at the same time excelling in classical studies (winner of the Arthur Redsell scholarship) and teaching a handful of young pianists out of his private studio. Upon graduation, he plunged head first into Toronto’s dynamic indie music scene and within two years of graduation, he was signed to independent label Cerberus Music, an imprint of Universal Music Canada. In addition to numerous live and televised appearances with his own bands in Canada and Europe, his credits also include co-writing the 2012 MuchMusic #1 single “Indian Summer” (Lyon), co-production credits for Canadian artists WhosArmy (winners CBC television’s “Cover Me Canada”), and playing keyboards for the 2009 Top 30 Canadian Alternative Rock radio single “Laces Out” (U.S.S.). Paul’s original compositions have been featured in television shows and advertisements, as well as independent films. After a brief hiatus from the “music business”, Paul rediscovered his first love by re-immersing himself in performing and teaching classical music, particularly the music of J.S. Bach. For thirty years, Paul has instructed students on: drum set, Caribbean percussion (congas, bongos, timbales, steel pan, and cajon), and orchestral percussion (concert snare drum, all mallet instruments, and tympani). His diverse performance experience includes Pop, Soul, Country, and Latin music; Steel Bands, Flamenco, West African and other global music; and numerous professional orchestras. A specialist in musical theatre, Paul has performed in the Canadian premieres of Come From Away, Beautiful, Lord of the Rings, The Producers, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Miss Saigon, and Les Misérables. He has toured across Canada, Europe, and Japan and appears on over one hundred and seventy commercial recordings.

Peter has a passion for drumming and has been teaching percussion and playing drums professionally since the 80s. His background, education and experience includes a variety of styles; ranging from pop music, rock, jazz, funk, world music, classical, and marching band. Peter began his formal musical education at the age of 10, studying with a number of local drum teachers; including Ken Moore and John Fisher. He also attended the VCC Music Program. He has been the dynamic drummer of the popular local band, Dr. Strangelove, since 1992. He also performs with many other local musicians and bands on a regular basis. The core essence of his teaching philosophy is to create an atmosphere of freedom and fun. For five years he was a solo and ensemble guitarist on Norwegian and Princess Cruise lines playing everything from rock ‘n roll through jazz, country, R&B, various finger styles, and classical music. Pete has played drums, bass, guitar and keyboards in a variety of local bands. He won the 2010 Canadian Boss Loop Station championship as "The Duke of Loops". He's a veteran of Calgary's jam scene, accustomed to improvising rock, blues, funk, hip-hop, and reggae. Peter earned his BA in Philosophy at University of Manitoba, and takes a holistic approach to learning music theory, tying it together with fields as diverse as visual arts and yoga to engineering and geometry. Philippe Bourdua discovered a growing passion for the piano when he was in high school. He holds a DEC in classical piano performance from Collège Lionel-Groulx and is currently completing a BAC in music education at Université du Québec à Montréal. He has participated in several competitions, including Cégeps en spectacle, and has also performed many times in front of an audience at group events, including the opening of the very first concert of the Lionel-Groulx North Shore Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the Lionel-Groulx Choir and is currently a chorister with the Vagabonds de Boisbriand. Philippe aspires to share his great passion for music in order to allow future musicians to learn with joy and pleasure in order to reach their personal goals at their own pace. Philippe graduated from the Cégep de Trois-Rivières with a DEC in jazz music. He also studied double bass with Professor Michel Donato at the Université de Montréal. He has collaborated with such Quebec artists as Laurence Jalbert, Mario Pelchat and Lynda Thalie. He also freelances for various musical projects in a variety of styles. He has mastered many styles, including pop, rock, blues and jazz. As a teacher, he finds it important to make learning one of the instruments he teaches a fun and satisfying experience for students of all ages. Philippe has been teaching music since 1997.

Phoebe Chan - B.A., B. Ed. (Piano, Theory) Registration Request

Phoebe was born in Hong Kong and began learning the piano at the age of four. She completed both her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees at the University of Calgary. Phoebe has taught a wide range of music programs across all grade levels, including music theory, band, choir, and jazz band, in both Hong Kong and Calgary. With over 15 years of teaching experience, she is able to help students of all ages and abilities, including those with learning disabilities, learn the piano. During her practicum, Phoebe conducted a music band of 96 students. She has also taught over 450 students in music programs, working alongside two amazing doctoral colleagues specializing in music. At band festivals, Phoebe plays as a pianist in the band at the request of the music doctors, earning multiple national awards. In addition to piano, she teaches flute and clarinet to school bands starting in grade 5. She can help students prepare for university auditions for a Bachelor of Music (BMus) program, either as a major or minor. Phoebe is fluent in Cantonese and enjoys teaching students of all ages. Since 2016, she has been the founder and director of the Mini Orchestra at Long & McQuade Calgary East and Westmount Charter School. Recently, Phoebe partnered with Dr. Wendy Freeman to co-found the Calgary Youth Wind Conducting Ensemble, where they both serve as directors.

Pier-Alexandre picked up his first guitar at the age of 10. He developed a keen interest in music, but it wasn't until he was at secondary school that he plunged headfirst into the world of music. He discovered a passion for all things musical, trying out a number of instruments including piano, bass and drums before deciding to concentrate on the guitar. His influences began with rock and punk and later extended to blues and funk. It was at this point that he formed Métropole, his alternative rock band in which he sings and plays bass, and which is still active today. The band warmed up audiences for established French-language rock artists such as Groovy Aardvark, Mudie and Galaxie.
He later earned a DEC in jazz interpretation at Cégep de Saint-Laurent, where he discovered his passion for jazz and fusion. He is currently working on a variety of musical projects, including the semi-finals of the Festival International de la Chanson de Granby competition. He is currently studying Jazz and World Music at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Music.

Rebecca Foss holds a degree in Music Performance, and a graduate degree in Film Scoring and Composition. She has a special interest in romantic and contemporary repertoire, music theory, and RCM exam preparation. Rebecca also loves creating customized sheet music of students’ favorite songs, tailored to their individual skill level.
Rebecca teaches students from ages 6 to 96, and is known for her compassionate teaching style and ability to connect with students. She is passionate about building meaningful connections with her students while supporting them as they grow in skill and confidence.
