Marco Castillo was born in the capital of Samba, and after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Estácio de Sá University in Rio de Janeiro in 1994, he instantly began touring South America with Brazil’s hottest bands; since moving to Canada, Marco has performed in festivals around the globe, and has recorded and produced many musical projects. Whether it’s his work as a solo artist, his full 8 piece "Brazilian Beats" band, or collaborations with the Winnipeg Jazz and Symphony Orchestras and Ron Paley’s Big Band, Castillo brings a one of a kind show. Castillo’s much appraised Trip to Brazil, (one of his three albums), was awarded World Recording of the Year (2012) in Regina as part of the Western Canadian Music Awards. Marco Castillo was also a finalist for the 2015 Viña del Mar music festival in Chile, one of the most important music festivals in Latin America, which is broadcasted and seen by over 250,000,000 fans around the world. Castillo believes in developing a personalized teaching method for each student since every individual learns differently. Marco specializes in a number of different teaching styles including rock, jazz, pop, country, as well as Latin rhythms such as samba, bossa-nova, bolero, salsa, Afro Cuban and more!

With a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Performance from Dalhousie University under his belt, Matt Gallant has been involved in the music industry for 25 years. Nate is a versatile Ottawa-based drummer with over a decade of experience performing across genres from progressive metal to jazz. He plays with the award-winning rock band Double Experience, his own event band Groove Knight, and a variety of other projects, while also working as a sought-after session drummer for weddings, events, and studio recordings.

Nate has studied under acclaimed drummers Baard Kolstad (Leprous) and Ray Hearne (Haken), honing a technical and musical approach that informs both his playing and teaching. Nelson Collins-Lee is a Canadian drummer, based in Edmonton, Alberta. He plays an eclectic variety of styles (jazz, rock, metal, afro-Caribbean etc.) and has a detailed yet relaxed and student orientated approach to teaching. After completing his diploma in drum set performance at MacEwan University and spending an additional year of jazz studies at the University of North Texas, he has spent the past five years teaching private lessons, performing with bands and continuing to learn. Currently he plays with the bands Red Litmus, All Else Fails, Morewine, Pike and the 21st Agenda. Nelson also takes on various freelance gigs and recording sessions and made his musical theatre debut in the fall of 2016 when he played WS “Fluke” Holland in the Citadel Theatre’s production of the Million Dollar Quartet. He's had the privilege of studying under esteemed drum masters like Jojo Mayer and Jost Nickel. He is a touring drummer for many Iranian and Canadian artists and is fluent in Jazz, Rock, Pop, Metal, and Funk.

Lessons with Nima will include how to read music, play by ear and develop a strong theoretical background, while also building the confidence to be on stage and play in front of a crowd.

Shortly after picking up his kid sister’s abandoned guitar at the age of 13, Paul began concentrating on drums. By 15, he was already teaching in a marching band, as well as at Berger Music in Richmond, England. Shortly after graduating high school, Paul became a full-time touring drummer, a career he pursued until he acquired the Milestone Percussion (now known as Tempus Drums) business in 1985. Between ‘85 and ‘13 he custom built almost 7500 unique drums; these days he’s more musically active than ever, teaching, writing, recording and performing music, as well as through his activities as a music advocate, music therapist and special needs EA with the North Vancouver school district. Peter has a passion for drumming and has been teaching percussion and playing drums professionally since the 80s. Peter began his formal musical education at the age of 10, studying with a number of local drum teachers; including Ken Moore and John Fisher. He also attended the VCC Music Program. Rob has been teaching music lessons for 26 years and has been playing for 38. A versatile musician, he offers lessons in guitar, bass, piano, and drums—though guitar holds a special place in his heart. “Guitar is my baby. That’s what I always come back to. Guitar is my passion but everything else kind of flows from there.”

Rob started playing music at age 13 and went on to build a professional career in the Toronto music scene before moving back to his hometown of Belleville in early 2003. During his time in Toronto, he worked with the alternative rock band Our Lady Peace and the French-Canadian band Simple Plan.

With a deep belief in the power of dedication, Rob encourages students of all backgrounds to explore music. “I believe you can play any instrument, all it takes is the want to do it and then sitting down and making the effort,” he says. “That's where I come in. I love having students because they inspire me and I can inspire them.”

Rob teaches students of all ages and skill levels—from five-year-olds just beginning their musical journey to seniors looking to improve or revisit their skills. His goal is to help each student grow, no matter where they’re starting from.
