Marco Castillo was born in the capital of Samba, and after graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Music at Estácio de Sá University in Rio de Janeiro in 1994, he instantly began touring South America with Brazil’s hottest bands; since moving to Canada, Marco has performed in festivals around the globe, and has recorded and produced many musical projects. Whether it’s his work as a solo artist, his full 8 piece "Brazilian Beats" band, or collaborations with the Winnipeg Jazz and Symphony Orchestras and Ron Paley’s Big Band, Castillo brings a one of a kind show. Castillo’s much appraised Trip to Brazil, (one of his three albums), was awarded World Recording of the Year (2012) in Regina as part of the Western Canadian Music Awards. Marco Castillo was also a finalist for the 2015 Viña del Mar music festival in Chile, one of the most important music festivals in Latin America, which is broadcasted and seen by over 250,000,000 fans around the world. Castillo believes in developing a personalized teaching method for each student since every individual learns differently. Marco specializes in a number of different teaching styles including rock, jazz, pop, country, as well as Latin rhythms such as samba, bossa-nova, bolero, salsa, Afro Cuban and more!

Marco teaches guitar, bass, Brazilian percussion, music perception, and music theory at our Winnipeg (Pembina) location.

Mark discovered guitar at the age of 14. He plays acoustic, electric, lap steel, mandolin, ukulele, bass and bandurria. He has been teaching all ages how to enjoy these instruments for over 30 years. As a young man, he won the Royal Conservatory’s silver medal of Canada in classical guitar. Mark has continued by composing new finger-style works that showcase this training. Mark has always admired artists like Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan, and old masters like Robert Johnson and Son House. That passion led to a nomination for a Covenant award by the Canadian Gospel Music Association for Best Blues Song, 'Waiting For the Resurrection'.

Matt Martin is a London, Ontario guitar teacher of many stripes; with a diverse background in classical guitar, fingerstyle, flamenco, folk, rock, music theory, songwriting, psychology, education, and music production he dedicates his unique skill set to helping students reach their musical goals and inspire them to go further.

Matt began playing guitar when he was 15 and immediately became a life-long student of effective and efficient learning. Originally inspired by rock guitar virtuosos, he practiced technique endlessly for a year before discovering a new challenge, classical guitar. In less than three years, Matt advanced far enough in classical guitar, music theory, and piano to attend Western University, where he achieved his Bachelor of Music (honors) degree with a minor in psychology. After completing his music degree, Matt continued his training with a Bachelor of Education from UWO, followed by a Music Industry Arts diploma from Fanshawe. His debut single as a singer-songwriter, Maple & Pine won second place in the inaugural Aeolian Hall song contest out of 162 entries.

Norm has been playing guitar for 40+ years and teaching/performing for over 20 years. He co-developed the guitar teaching program at Simply Guitars in Ottawa in 2006 where he taught for almost ten years.
Utilizing the 12 bar blues styles and CAGED system have been very effective in helping students establish a technical foundation from which they can branch off into rock, pop, metal, country and jazz etc. He believes in a relaxed but structured learning environment, utilizing both theoretical and hands-on approaches, and enjoys teaching anyone from the complete novice to the seasoned player looking to expand their horizons. His personal philosophy also includes talking about the history and origins of songs, styles, performers, instruments etc.

He's a veteran of Calgary's jam scene, accustomed to improvising rock, blues, funk, hip-hop, and reggae. Peter earned his BA in Philosophy at University of Manitoba, and takes a holistic approach to learning music theory, tying it together with fields as diverse as visual arts and yoga to engineering and geometry.
