2025 Reading Clinic: Get it right from the start!
Once again we are pleased to offer a comprehensive series of sessions featuring new music selections for concert band, elementary classroom, and sacred and non-sacred choirs. We organize our reading sessions with your professional development in mind: our dedicated team strives to choose repertoire for its educational value, originality and overall appeal. With selections appropriate for schools, church choirs and community programs of all ages and abilities, you're certain to find fun and innovative new material to suit your musical needs. Calgary Schedule
Long & McQuade is thrilled to present our new concert band music session with Dr. Wendy Zander. In this session, Dr. Zander will be reviewing highlights of this year's offering from publishers and composers of band music, and some great professional development. The session will focus on repertoire from level 0.5-3.

Long & McQuade is pleased to present an encore presentation of our annual repertoire review in Calgary! Our own band music specialist, Tricia Howe will be hosting an afternoon review of the highlights of this year's concert band offering to enable folks from both districts to attend. The session will focus on repertoire from level 0.5 -3, and leave space for discussions of more advanced repertoire as needed.

Our Clinicians
Erin Craig
Erin Craig (they/them) is a conductor, vocalist, composer, keyboardist, and educator born and raised in Edmonton. While completing their undergraduate degree in jazz piano at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, the desire to find a church community led them to Old South Church where they became a co-leader of the Jazz and Reflections evening worship service and taught themself to improvise keyboard accompaniment to spoken-word preaching. On their return to Edmonton, Erin found themself assisting the music ministry at Holyrood Mennonite Church and St. Albert United Church before returning to Robertson-Wesley again as a chorister, and as Interim Director of Music from 2019-2021. Erin is currently the artist director for both Accord Ensemble and Edmonton Vocal Minority in Edmonton.

Heather Nail
Heather Nail has been an Orff Music Specialist for the Calgary Board of Education for 20 years. She holds Orff level three certification, and has a Master of Education degree, specializing in Elementary Music. Heather teaches the choral component of the Calgary Orff Chapter summer levels course. She is the 2nd vice president of Carl Orff Canada, and presents regularly at music conferences in Canada.

Andrea Ciona
Andrea Ciona is a highly regarded conductor, performer, adjudicator, and educator. Having conducted and adjudicated ensembles around the world, Andrea’s highlights include conducting on the Great Wall of China, adjudicating in Jakarta, Indonesia, and leading a massed ensemble of 1,000+ performers at the Royal Nova Scotia Military Tattoo. Artistic Director of the Spiritus Chamber Choir, Andrea is regarded as an innovator and leader in Calgary’s Choral Music Community

Dr. Wendy Zander
Dr. Wendy Zander is the Instrumental Music Education Specialist and director of the Symphonic Band at Brandon University where she teaches courses in music education and conducting. Work as a solo and ensemble adjudicator and clinician for concert and jazz ensembles has taken her across Canada and the United States. She serves as a guest conductor for university, community, and military ensembles, as conductor at the International and Rushmore Music Camps, and as facilitator of conducting symposia. She has conducted junior high and high school regional, provincial, and state honor bands and was the conductor of the 2018 National Youth Band of Canada. Wendy is the advisor of the Brandon University Student Music Educators Association (BUSMEA). She served as Lead Writer of the Manitoba Grade 9-12 Music Curriculum Framework, has published in Canadian Winds, and is a regular contributor to the publication and recording Teaching Music Through Performance series. A former President of the Manitoba Band Association and Canadian Band Association (CBA), she is an Educational Clinician for the Conn-Selmer Division of Education and the 2021 recipient of the CBA’s National Band Award. Zander, active as a conductor and clinician, investigates areas related to teaching and learning, conducting, and instrumental literature as curriculum in the music classroom.

Tricia Howe
Tricia Howe is the Regional Manager of Educational Services - Prairies with Long & McQuade. She presents at events and universities across Canada. Her board service includes; Alberta Band Association, Canadian Band Association, Visiting Bands Committee (Calgary Stampede), Alberta International Band Festival, MBA Optimist Committee, Phi Beta Mu – Mu Alpha Chapter, Women Band Directors International, Coalition for Music Education in Canada and Music Conference Alberta. Tricia holds mentorship roles with NAMM Young Professionals and Women of NAMM. She has been honoured with the MBA Award of Distinction, Honourary Phi Beta Mu membership, and the ABA Award of Distinction.
