2025 Reading Sessions - Toronto

2025 Reading Clinic: Get it right from the start!

Once again we are pleased to offer a comprehensive series of sessions featuring new music selections for concert band, elementary classroom, and sacred and non-sacred choirs. We organize our reading sessions with your professional development in mind: our dedicated team strives to choose repertoire for its educational value, originality and overall appeal. With selections appropriate for schools, church choirs and community programs of all ages and abilities, you're certain to find fun and innovative new material to suit your musical needs. Toronto Schedule

Concert Band
August 21, 9am-4pm, at Dovercourt House, 805 Dovercourt Rd.

Get a chance to see and hear the latest concert band titles from your favourite music publishers, guided by experienced band director, David Lum. The morning will focus on charts from Grades 0.5-1.5, then we will gather for lunch (provided by L&M), and move on to Grades 2-3 for the afternoon. Feel free to join us for the whole day or whichever part of the day best suits your ensemble.

Secular Choral (Elementary & High School/Adult)
August 22, 9am-4pm, at Dovercourt House, 805 Dovercourt Rd.

We welcome experienced educator and choir director, Jackie Hawley, to lead our choral reading sessions this year. We will focus on elementary resources and octavos in the morning, then shift to secular high school/community choir material in the afternoon. Please join us for a day of singing with colleagues and friends! Morning coffee and lunch are included and all attendees will get a package of music to take home.

Our Clinicians

Jackie Hawley

Jackie Hawley is the founding Artistic Director of the Cantiamo Choirs of Ottawa. She has conducted and toured internationally with adult, youth and children’s choirs and has been a clinician for choirs and schools throughout Canada for nearly 40 years. She has presented at numerous events including Festival 500, Podium and the International Symposium of Singing and Song II. Ms. Hawley is committed to the creation, performance and promotion of Canadian choral music and has premiered over 50 works by Canadian composers.

David Lum

David Lum retired from public school teaching in February of 2021, following a 32-year career in public education with the former Scarborough Board of Education and the Toronto District School Board. He is a founding member of the Ontario Band Association and served on the board of the Ontario Music Educators’ Association from 2000-2015 and is an Honorary Life Member of both the OBA and the OMEA. David is a recipient of the Keith Mann Outstanding Band Director Award, presented by MusicFest Canada and is a Laureate of the Legion of Honor for the John Philip Sousa Society. In demand as an adjudicator and clinician and conductor, David has worked with students and teachers across Canada and the United States. Currently, he teaches the Music Qualification course for the Faculty of Education and is the instructor of the Tuba/Euphonium studio in the Faculty of Arts, Media, Performance, and Design, at York University.  David is a Conn-Selmer Educational Clinician.
