2026 Repertoire Highlights: Sharing the Joy of Music!

Once again we are pleased to offer a comprehensive series of sessions featuring new music selections for concert band, elementary classroom, and sacred and non-sacred choirs. We organize our reading sessions with your professional development in mind: our dedicated team strives to choose repertoire for its educational value, originality and overall appeal. With selections appropriate for schools, church choirs and community programs of all ages and abilities, you're certain to find fun and innovative new material to suit your musical needs. Vancouver

Welcome to the original home of Long & McQuade's summer reading clinics. This year, we are presenting our traditional array of choral clinics along with a day long concert band clinic that will be focused on early grade charts appropriate for young and developing bands through Grade 3.

Concert Band
August 17, 9:30am-4:30pm, Clinic Room at Long & McQuade Vancouver, 368 Terminal Ave.

Get a chance to hear the latest titles from your favourite publishers, guided by Darrin Oehlerking who has recently published the ultimate guide to concert band music in Canada, "Winds of the North." The focus will be on early charts from Grade 0.5 – 3. Lunch and snacks included.

Tyler and Hyejung will present a wide range of new choral music for secondary and community choirs. This is an all day session that includes lunch and snacks.

This session will cover the latest in sacred choral publications. This is an all day session that includes lunch and snacks. Geordie Roberts will return to lead this clinic.

Our Clinicians

Tyler Baek

After falling in love with choral music and the powerful social bonds that communal music-making entails, Tyler has made it his goal to master and spread the joy of choral music! Holding a Master’s in Choral Conducting and a Bachelor of Music and Education from the University of British Columbia, Tyler has gone on to conduct the orchestras and choirs at the Vancouver Pops, teach music at Kwantlen Park Secondary and at UBC, and is a co-founder, president and co-artistic director of the award-winning Nabi Vocal Ensemble, a choir in Vancouver that focuses on providing opportunities for emerging musicians in the lower mainland. Tyler is also an active clinician and has presented at the BCMEA Conference on numerous occasions. Beginning this fall, he will join Douglas College as the new choir conductor and voice instructor.

Tyler Baek and Dr. Hyejung Jun are presenting the Vancouver Secondary Choral clinic.

Dr. Hyejung Jun (DMA)

Hyejung Jun is an Assistant Professor of Choral Conducting at the University of British Columbia, where she conducts the UBC Choral Union with 120 singers and teaches Choral Literature, Choral Conducting Techniques, and Conducting Lessons for graduate conducting students. Her performances have been recognized for their sensitivity and excellence. As a clinician, Jun has been invited to work with singers of all ages. She has conducted workshops and masterclasses with students from Canada, United States, and Korea. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and earned her Master of Music degrees in Choral Conducting from Yonsei University in Korea and Emory University in the United States.

Dr. Hyejung Jun and Tyler Baek are presenting the Vancouver Secondary Choral clinic.

Dr. Darrin Oehlerking

Dr. Darrin Oehlerking currently serves as Associate Dean of Student Affairs for the College of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan, and is Professor of Music in the USask School for the Arts. He previously served as Director of Bands and Jazz at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota, and as Music Coordinator for the Louis Riel School Division in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Dr. Oehlerking conducted the 2022 National Youth Band of Canada, held at York University in Toronto, Ontario. He has previously served as the President of the Canadian Band Association, as well as the President of the Saskatchewan Band Association. He has conducted ensembles, served as an adjudicator, conference presenter and clinician across Canada, as well as in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. He has two arrangements for wind band available from Eighth Note Publications – Regimental March of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Souvenir de Quebec. He is the editor and compiler of the forthcoming book Winds of the North, a resource dedicated to highlighting Canadian wind band repertoire and music education. It is scheduled to be published by GIA in December 2025.

George Roberts

George "Geordie" Roberts is a graduate of the School of Music UBC and the Vancouver Academy of Music where he was privileged to study under Phyllis Mailing. He was member of the Vancouver Chamber Choir for twenty years and an instructor in the School of Performing Arts at Capilano University. He has been the Co-ordinator of Music at Highlands United Church, North Vancouver since 1992. Originally from Enderby, Geordie makes his home in North Vancouver with his wife, Frances (a choir guru in her own right), where they have cheerfully raised three wonderfully tall and musical sons.

George Roberts is presenting the Vancouver Sacred Choral clinic.

Kelly Proznick

Kelly Proznick is an educator, conductor, and musician living on Coast Salish Territory in New Westminster BC. She has worked with all levels of singers, from adults to children, and is passionate about inclusivity in music, believing that singing can be a place of belonging for everyone. She taught music and musical theatre at New Westminster Secondary for 19 years and is currently working at SFU in the Faculty of Education teacher-training program. She has served as an educational clinician for many organizations including VSO School of Music, Chor Leoni’s MyVoice program, Elektra Women’s Choir Youth Singer Workshops, BC Choral Federation, and the BC Music Educators Association. Formerly on the artistic team of Coastal Sound Music Academy conducting their adult choir Decoro, she is currently conducting children’s choirs with Vancouver Youth Choir. Kelly holds degrees from McGill (B.Mus), UBC (B.Ed ) and SFU (M.A.).
