Description

When it was launched in 1958, the Gibson Explorer™ didn't immediately cause a sensation. Futuristic in its design and decidedly ahead of its time, this model gained popularity over the years. In the 1970s, it won over rock musicians who appreciated its unique style and aggressive tone. After gracing stages around the world, the 1970s Gibson Explorer is now accessible to a new generation of guitarists.

The 1970s Explorer features a solid mahogany body in the iconic shape of the series, paired with a mahogany neck with a SlimTaper™ profile for fast playing. The Indian rosewood fingerboard has 22 medium jumbo frets and acrylic inlays. A 12-inch radius allows for smooth playing of both first-position chords and deep bends in the upper register without fret buzz. The Explorer's signature scimitar headstock is equipped with Grover® Mini Rotomatic™ tuners and a Graph Tech® nut for optimal tuning stability. The strings run over an aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and are secured by an aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece.

This guitar is built to be pushed to its limits. Its hand-wired electronics, inspired by the 1970s Explorer, include two powerful Tribute 70s humbucker™ pickups that recreate the rich tone and exceptional sustain of Explorer models from that era. Each pickup has its own volume control, while a master tone control with an Orange Drop® capacitor provides an even wider tonal palette. All three controls feature black Speed knobs, combining functionality with classic aesthetics.

The 1970s Explorer comes in a Gibson hard case to protect it during storage or travel, whether for a gig or a jam session. Discover everything the 1970s Explorer has to offer and make history with this iconic, bold, and powerful guitar.
