Description
Excellent example of a vintage Fender Champ. Date code on the label is “FD” which refers to April 1956, which matches what the transformer and speaker date codes seem to be. Transformers and speaker look to be original, power transformer code being “NYT 5396”. According to the stamp on the speaker it could be a Permaflux speaker which would match other Champs from the time period, but is just speculation.
The amp runs and sounds fantastic - was tested for hours before being put on sale. Due to this it can be inferred that some tubes and capacitors have been replaced as there is very little noise in the amp, but cannot be confirmed. Based on what was used around the time period, the capacitors and resistors appear to be original or at least period correct replacements.
The amp has been modded at some point to add a 3-prong grounded power cable for safety, and the infamous “death cap” has been removed from the circuit but included with the amp.
Beautiful bedroom level cleans at low volumes, and tweed crunch at high ones, this amp is an absolute classic for a reason. Fantastic pedal platform or perfect clean amp for jazz gigs, this one knob wonder can do it all. Your chance to own a piece of guitar history.
