Description
The Ibanez V7, S1, and V8 represent the stock HSH (Humbucker-Single-Coil-Humbucker) pickup configuration famously loaded into 1990s and 2000s Japanese-made Ibanez RG series guitars (such as the RG550, RG470, and Prestige lines). Designed as versatile workhorses, they offer distinct tonal characteristics tailored for rock and metal.
V7 (Neck Humbucker):Tone: Warm, deep, and dynamic without being excessively bright. It tracks very well for articulate neck-pickup leads and classic, smooth overdriven tones.
Specs: Features an Alnico V magnet and a DC Resistance (DCR) of around 9.12 kΩ.
S1 (Middle Single Coil):Tone: Crisp and snappy. It provides the classic Strat-style chime in positions 2, 3, and 4 on a 5-way selector switch, adding excellent "quack" and glassiness to clean passages.
Specs: Features an Alnico magnet and a DCR around 9.19 kΩ.
V8 (Bridge Humbucker):Tone: High-output and aggressive, engineered for heavy rhythm and soaring leads. It is designed to be punchy, tight, and cutting, though it can occasionally sound slightly compressed or "middy" in high-gain applications.
Specs: Features an Alnico V magnet and a hotter DCR typically around 16.30 kΩ.
