Description
Selmer Paris original Silver Plated Super “Non Cigar Cutter” alto saxophone manufactured in 1933, serial number 17681.
The “Super” series was first released in 1931, following the “New Large Bore” model. For a few years Selmer made the Super with a unique looking octave key rocker resembling a cigar cutter. Which is of course how this series of Supers got the nick name Cigar Cutter. Then they Improved the octave mechanism the first “Modern” style octave mechanism. With 2 gears in the mechanism.
This particular alto shows off its original silver plate finish and is with the original neck as well as all of the original key work. While the alto has little play wear it also has a beautiful look featuring crisp engraving. This alto is a transitional model between the “Cigar Cutter” and the “Radio Improved”. The only difference between the this horn and the “Cigar Cutter” is the octave mechanism.
