Description
The Selmer Paris Mark VII tenor saxophone is a shining example of powerful vintage horns that have maintained their desirable reputation 50 years after they first rolled off the assembly line.
As the successor to the iconic Mark VI, the Mark VII shares much of the qualities with what is likely the most sought after saxophone of all time. The VII produces a very rich, dark sound well suited to offering timbre similar to the jazz giants of the mid 20th century, many of whom were playing Mark VIIs themselves. The VII offers a good level of resistance as well, giving the player more to push against thus further thickening the tone.
What really separates this horn from many others of its generation is the ergonomics. The Mark VII is geared towards those with larger hands, who find difficulty playing the smaller key layouts common on horns. The action on Mark VIIs is also heavier, further demanding more effort from the player, with the return of a layered and complex sound.
The serial number on this Mark VII can be dated back to 1978 through Selmers online records. Throughout its history this instrument has been well kept, with only the expected wear on the lacquer and minor scratches throughout that are evidence of continued use over the last 50 years.
***This horn is housed in an older model of Pro-Tec case and does not come with a mouthpiece or any other accessories (except a basic Carlton neck strap).
