Description

This Bass Trombone is a custom horn built from Shires selection of modular trombone parts. Shires has been handcrafting brass instruments in Holliston, Massachusetts since 1995, with a particular specialty in trombones and other low brass instruments. They are beloved across the entirety of the trombone community for their adaptable catalogue of instruments and instrument parts. Offering interchangeable options so any trombone can fit any need.

This horn is built around a dual axial dependant valve system. The axial F and D valves are connected in series so that the D valve can only be accessed if the F valve is engaged. This designs allows for greater efficiency in the low register and allows for a tapered neckpipe. Axial valves themselves offer the most open feel and sound of any valve available. They are favoured in particular by orchestral players who are seeking a broad sound with pronounced overtones and excellent blending characteristics.

The bell on this instrument is the BII 2RGLW. The light-weight, two-piece, red brass bell is a stable yet brilliant sound offering a quick and easy response. The "II" taper is broader through the throat and leans towards a wider sound.

The horn is fitted with a gold-brass B62 handslide offering a .562" bore offering a consistent feel throughout all registers of the instrument.
