Beginning Ukelele With Steve Murphy

Beginning group session for ukelele. All ages are welcome! Please bring your own uke. Steve is a composer, performer and private teacher from Baie Verte, Newfoundland. His music has been featured on television, including a segment on MTV Live, and he is currently finishing work on his debut album. His students have had success in Kiwanis festivals, and have received Gold Medal honors in Royal Conservatory exams. Steve has guided dozens of aspiring ukelele enthusiasts!

Beginning Hand Drum/Percussion with Tony Tucker

This clinic will teach you basic patterns on hand drums and hand percussion. Please bring your own instrument. Tony is a percussionist from St. John’s who started playing the drum kit at the age of 10. He is well versed in many styles including rock, traditional, folk, flamenco, West African, Middle-Eastern, and Latin percussion. He’s recorded and toured with several bands including ECMA nominees The Danette Eddy Band and Potbelly, and has performed around the world with Guinean percussion group Fola. Tony’s passion for West African music has led him to study under master djembe players Famoudou Konate, Mohamed Kalifa Kamara, Mamady Keita and M’Bemba Bangoura. Tony has also performed with the ECMA winners El Viento Flamenco (Roots/Traditional Recording of the Year, 2007) at many festivals including the PEI Folk and Jazz Festival, The Atlantic Film Festival and the prestigious Ottawa International Chamber Music Festival
