Building an Efficient Practice Routine
with Daniel Rayney

In this workshop, we'll develop an efficient practice routine.  We'll work on key points, like:

  • Getting yourself organized
  • Building a routine and establishing effective techniques through repetition
  • Categorizing your exercises: technical vs. musical

Daniel has been teaching students of all ages, in multiple genres including Rock, Blues, Country and Classical guitar technique. He studied at Wilfred Laurier University under Terry McKenna in a Bachelor of Music program for guitar performance. He is a highly proficient performer and has been teaching with Long & McQuade in North Bay since 2018, and privately for more than 15 years.

Uke Can Do It!  Learning More About the Ukulele
with Heather J Topps     
   

Learn the basics of ukulele with Heather as she goes over introductory instructions, and basic concepts:

  • Getting started with the ukulele
  • First chords for beginners
  • Moveable chord shapes and chord families
  • Strumming, fingerpicking and fingerstyle techniques
  • Tips for playing your first songs

Heather  is a local ukulele and U-bass (ukulele bass) player.  She has been running the North Bay Ukulele Club since it originated in 2012 and continues to develop the large songbook used by the group. She is also the coordinator of Uke4ia, a ukulele group of up to 25 members that performs locally. In 2022, Heather began collaborating with The Village, Canadore College, to develop a ukulele program for participants aged 60+. She is a multi-instrumentalist with special interest in the guitar, banjo, cello banjo, bass and piano. In her spare time she enjoys researching music styles, genres, and traditions and the impact of music on society and culture.
