Want to learn the basics of home production & recording music?

Are you a beginner who wants to know where to start? 

Or an intermediate home recording enthusiast who wants to find the next steps to get a more professional sound?

We're going to walk through:

  1. Getting Started - What is a DAW? What is an interface? And what do you need fo them to work?
  2. Recording & Engineering - The process of capturing guitar, bass, voice and other real instruments
  3. MIDI - What is this acronym?  Why do we need to know how and why to use it?
  4. Production & Arrangement
  5. Mixing & Mastering - What are they?  How are they different?  And how do I mix all these instrument parts together effectively?

Jon is active musician in the North Bay music scene, performing live as a solo artist and in groups such as The Funkers, Kylyk, and others.  He is a graduate of the Candore College Recording & Engineering Music program.  His recording and engineering credits include live performances with the Capitol Centre, and notable names such as Cory Marks and Dayv Poulin. 

Jon has an active solo recording career releasing music on most major streaming platforms.  And most of all, Jon has a recognizable smile while working at Long & McQuade North Bay.

Ukulele 101      
with Heather Topps

Learn the fundamentals and beyond of playing the ukulele with instruction on:

  1. Getting started - chords for new players
  2. Moveable chord shapes and chord families
  3. Strumming techniques and fingerpicking patterns
  4. Understanding the fretboard
  5. How to read ukulele tablature and tips for soloing.

Heather is a local ukulele U-bass (ukulele bass) player.  She has been running the North Bay Ukulele Club since it originated in 2012 and continues to develop the large songbook used by the group. She is also the coordinator of Uke4ia, a ukulele group of up to 25 members that performs locally.

In 2022, Heather began collaborating with The Village, Canadore College, to develop a ukulele program for participants aged 60+. She is a multi-instrumentalist with special interest in the guitar, banjo, cello banjo, bass and piano. In her spare time she enjoys researching music styles, genres, and traditions and the impact of music on society and culture.
