Audio Engineering 101
with Brad Rice

This workshop will serve as an intro to basic areas of audio engineering. Please come with questions and we can get into the practical steps and tools you'll need to set up and mix a live show, a home recording session, a podcast or anything you think will sound cool!

Brad is from the Annapolis Valley and has recently moved back home from Toronto. He is an audio professional with over 20 years of experience working in live sound, TV and film on set and post-production, music recording and voice over.

Songwriting
with Freya Milliken & Tyler Macdonald

Freya Milliken is an award winning singer-songwriter and recent graduate of Acadia University’s School of Music. She is quickly establishing herself as an emerging musician with her heartfelt songs, intimate musical delivery and growing presence at major music festivals across the Maritimes including Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, Levee On the Lake, and Deep Roots Music Festival. Freya released her debut EP Wholeheartedly in November 2023, and the title-track won Song of the Year at the 2023 Music New Brunswick Awards.

In addition to performing and songwriting, Freya works for non-profit organization Music In Communities, where much of her focus has been on hosting open jams for youth, programming live concerts, and leading an all-ages queer community choir.

Cape Breton, percussionist Tyler McDonald works as a full time musician and teacher based in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. He has collaborated with many artists across Nova Scotia in both live and recorded settings including Freya Milliken, Avalon & The Pyramids, Sarah McInnis, The Sundries and Mark Riley.

Amidst various freelance projects as a drumset performer, Tyler also engages with music in classical, traditional/folk and contemporary settings playing mallet percussion, timpani, and multi-percussion setups. A graduate of Acadia University’s music program, he recently studied under Barbara Hannigan at the 2023 EQ Seminar at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance where he collaborated and performed with musicians and composers from around the world.
