Join us for a practical and demonstrative jazz clinic focused on the concept of interplay - the real time musical interaction, communication and collective decision making among musicians during performance, especially within improvised music. This clinic is designed for instrumentalists, composers and improvisers seeking to deepen their understanding of ensemble communication, creative risk-taking and collective musical expression in jazz and improvised music.

Esteban Herrera is an internationally renowned pianist and composer, recognized for his distinctive contributions to contemporary jazz. Based in Calgary, he leads the Esteban Herrera Trio and has released 13 albums. He was nominated for a Juno Award in 2022, won a YYC Music Award in 2023, and was nominated again in 2024. He is also a voting member of the Latin Grammys.

Esteban holds degrees in Jazz Music Performance, Communication Sciences, and piano. With 30 years as a professional pianist and over 15 years of teaching experience, he brings expertise as a performer, composer, arranger, and producer. Having lived in Spain, Germany, Mexico, and Canada, Esteban’s teaching is enriched by his global perspective.
