With nearly a decade of experience each creating, releasing, and performing original music, Naledi brings a grounded, artist-first approach to songwriting—centering on honesty, curiosity, and play. Together, Naledi and Kira will guide participants through creative exercises and practical tools designed to support songwriters at any stage. This workshop welcomes songwriters of all backgrounds and genres.

Music Law & Marketing
With Byron Pascoe and Colin Mills

Colin will be addressing why artists and managers need to clarify their brand, build an effective marketing strategy, and plan a realistic release timeline for their music. On the legal front, Ottawa-based music lawyer Byron Pascoe will speak about music agreements and legal considerations for musicians, producers, writers, and more.

Colin Mills is the Program Coordinator and Professor of Music Business in the Music Industry Arts Program at Algonquin College. Throughout his extensive career in the music industry, he has held various executive roles in audio production, media manufacturing, and private music education. He has also been involved in promoting and managing numerous Canadian artists. In 2021, he received the prestigious Victor Tolgesy Arts Award from the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Arts Council for his contributions to the city’s cultural life. 

Byron Pascoe is an Ottawa-based entertainment lawyer and partner with Edwards Creative Law. His focus is on music and he works with musicians, composers, recording artists and music companies.

With Jacqueline Sadler

Yoga for Singers is a workshop focusing on vocal health, and the mind-breath-body connection for vocal strength and longevity. Through movement, music, and mindfulness, Yoga for Singers offers practical suggestions and advice for using your voice to its full potential.

In a career spanning 25 years, Jacqueline has performed across Canada, from multiple seasons with The Charlottetown Festival to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and everywhere in between. She is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in Voice Performance. She is an avid distance runner and registered yoga teacher.

Guitar Basics 3 “Master the basics”
With Fred Donkor

In this clinic, Fred will be providing valuable beginner/intermediate guitar tips to aspiring guitarists. Be sure to bring your guitar!

Topics include:

  • Learning your fretboard
  • How to easily memorize scales and play them across the entire neck
  • Having fun with extended blues scales
  • Soloing strategies
  • Phrasing
  • Blues Rhythms

Fred Donkor is a Berklee College of Music graduate and music teacher with the OCDSB. He is also an active freelance session musician & private instructor in the Ottawa area. He started playing guitar at age 15. His practicing soon paid off as three years later, he won second place in the Ottawa Guitar Wars Competition (sponsored by Fender) in 1989 at age 18 and again at age 21 in 1993.

On the recommendation of Vernon Reid (guitarist of living colour fame), he received a private invitation to audition for the Spin Doctors (on Epic Records) in NYC. In attendance was world renown guitarist Oz Noy.

Fred has jammed with Gus G (former Ozzy Guitarist), recorded with Keith Harris (Grammy award winning drummer for the Black Eyed Peas), Andre Bowman (Grammy nominated programmer/ playback engineer for Lady Gaga and former bassist for Usher), and performed with Maureen Murphy (Zac Brown Band) and many more…
