A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement)
A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) is an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha.
Through precise controll of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years.

New Designed Bracing Pattern
A modified non-scalloped bracing design retains the L series characteristic bright tone while enhancing low-end tone.

High Comfortable Traditional Neck Profile
A reevaluation of string spacing, string height, fingerboard binding, and neck taper led to a new neck shape that better fits todays raditional players. The new design offers stable grip and smooth playability over the full length of the neck.

5-Ply Necks
New 5-ply neck designs are constructed of rosewood and mahogany plies. The design integrates the neck, head, and body into a single unit creating a powerful, rich sound. This approach also creates a strong, stable neck that resists twisting and warping.

LL Body
This traditional Yamaha body style is known for its rich volume, a wide dynamic range, and excellent tonal balance. Beautiful, transparent tone is the result of a design that has been refined by artists around the globe.

Beautiful Abalone Binding
Based on the LL16, the new LL16D features intricate abalone inlay work around the body and sound hole. The inlays look particularly nice on stage where they beautifully reflect the stage lights.

SRT Zero Impact Pickups
The SRT Zero Impact Pickup system is a newly developed passive type pickup configuration designed to minimize the pickups impact on the tone and traditional appearance of the instrument. The system utilizes individual piezoelectric elements for each string to faithfully reproduce the dynamic sound of the L Series and give the instrument outstanding presence when playing in a band.

Started off on guitar with the LL16 many years ago. Back then the odour from the rosewood filled the store on unboxing. But eventually sold it in search of other guitars. Now 12 years later I'm back with a new one after playing various other makes of acoustic guitars. I consider the LL series to be the best value for the money for an acoustic. Yes, the sound system is basic, but plugged into any reasonable acoustic amp and you can get fantastic results. I did change out the plastic pins for Tusq, and that alone made a huge difference to the harmonics and quality of sound. Later added a Tusq saddle, and nut, and frankly would put this guitar up against anything costing twice as much. Heck even Yamaha's LL26 for that matter. The LL will produce plenty of projection and harmonics even with a delicate touch with finger style. Dig in with a flat pick and the structure of the guitar will take anything you care play. Comes with a really well make heavy duty gig back, and when you open it, are greeted with the incredible smell of rosewood.

This is an amazing guitar, plays very nicely, very nice tone, bright and long notes that resonate very. The satin neck allows for very easy glide. A gem to play.

I am a beginner but this wasn't my first guitar. I've been once to L&M Kamloops in late 2014, and I was reluctant to even to hold a guitar; but I did try few. Upon reaching home I started researching on guitar anatomy, and woods, I did that for about 13 months, and kept visiting the store once a month. Consequently I rented a guitar for about 1.5 years in early 2016, and still was visiting the store once in two or three months. Throughout this time from early 2014 'Grant Lucas' always answered my questions over the phone, and in store. Finally I ordered a Yamaha AC5R, and a Yamaha LL16D ARE, and choose 16D ARE. The service that I got from this store especially from 'Grant Lucas' made me extend my guitar warranty for another year. All solid wood, maple binding, abalone purfling. There is literally no other guitar for this price in the market. - All I can say from my 13 months research.

Played many guitars play professionally for years. I picked up this guitar and for the money you can't go wrong, tonal characteristics are excellent. Projection is unbelievable. I tried several guitars that were more expensive and name brands that didn't even sound close to this one. For fingerstyle players it plays like a dream. Well balanced guitar you can't go wrong this is a gem.

Honestly this is a fine guitar but a seagull that is hundreds less plays just as well and records much better. I did an apple to apple comparison and found the Seagull Maritime SWS HG to have the edge at hundreds less. If you are going to spend this kinda of doe then for a few hundred more I would look at the Taylor 214ce as well...

I bought this guitar in March 2016 at Reid's Music. Played everything that every music store had. The sound this guitar produces is equal to the top notch martins. I had intended on buying a J45 but the poor quality of the Gibson, along with the muddy flat sound disappointed me. I got a deal at $749, gig bag included. In case your wondering, the passive pickup needs a outboard preamp to get a truly good sound. I use a fishman pro eq 2, and it sounds wicked!! Zero issues with this guitar. Only complaint is I had to put on a strap button because it only comes with the butt Jack.

I bought this guitar based on a salesman's suggestion after I commented that I thought the A3R sounded a little thin to me. Before I tried the ll16 I did as much research as I could and was really impressed with the stiff 5 ply neck, the ARE technology and the solid engleman spruce top and rosewood back and sides. The Ebony bridge and fretboard were an added bonus. When I picked up this guitar, it felt great in my hands and the sound was incredibly balanced and warm without being muddy. The tone was rich but not boomy or thin, I can only explain it as being a completely balanced tone that rings and rings. I still have the original strings on it but I'm planning to swap them with Elixers once I've gotten some value from the original strings. I would easily pick this guitar over almost any sub $2000 for the value (comes with a case and I got the regular ll16 ARE for $799 with 0% for 6 months), the outstanding tone and excellent playability. You really can't go wrong with this guitar, it is a great sounding and playing instrument from day one and for the price it will easily grow with you from an experienced beginner to a coffee shop hero.

I bought the ARE without the abalone but other than that it is the same guitar but only $799. First impressions were excellent. The intonation was perfect on each string and it had a warm balanced tone even with the factory strings. The bass is fairly deep without the boomy overtones you'd get from some lower end dreadnoughts. All in all, I'd pick this guitar again over any of the sub $2000 guitars I played. I like the Seagull and S&P guitars as well but this one sounds just a bit more balanced that their top end models and was a few hundred less to bring it home. This is easily comparable to or better than the sub $2000 American brands which come with laminate backs and won't age a lot...

I recently purchased the LL16ARE at L&M, which is the same guitar without the abalone binding. At a first glance, workmanship is flawless, which is expected from Yamaha. They built their own plant in China (they don't use local factories that supplies multiple brands) and have a quality control system that surpasses most North American companies. This is because of the Japanese mentality of building top notch, high quality products. I am a big fan of Japanese guitars, especially the steel string and the classical. I also like the Taylors and the Martins, but cannot stand the poor quality control of Gibson. My LL16ARE was built in May 2014 and came with a beautiful Engelmann spruce top and perfect Indian Rosewood back and sides. Playability is superb and the neck feels right for normal or large hands. It's a 5-ply neck, which improves sustain. The sound is amazing. Bright, not brittle. Powerful bass, but not too boomy (it's not exactly a dreadnought). The mids are well balanced. The whole spectrum is there. It allows the player to create his/her own sound. Perfect for studio as well. Put some phosphor-bronze Elixir and the guitar will sound even better. The ARE treatment, which was previously done for the most expensive guitars, is now available on the LL series. It's their 40th anniversary, so they decided to upgrade everything in the LL series. The passive pick-up is a bonus. An all-solid instrument, with one of the best workmanship available in the market, at a reasonable price (paid $799 for the LL16ARE). By the way, check the March 2014 issue of the UK's Acoustic Magazine. They have a comprehensive article on Yamaha, and another one on the LL series. I suggest you also check the video of Daria Semikina on YouTube. She plays a bunch of beautiful pieces on a LS16 (different shape from the LL model, but same quality and materials). I don't see a reason to pay twice or three times more for a similar US model, unless you want that specific sound. You are just paying for wages and benefits in the US. Try the Yamaha and you will not be disappointed. I have several guitars, from classical to electric (made in the US, Europe and Asia), and the Yamahas are one of my favourite acoustics.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
