Bring a Torch, Jeannette, Isabella was first published in a 1668 collection of Provencal noels. Jeannette and Isabella, presumed to be farmhands, found the Christ-child, then shared the good news with local villagers, cautioning them not to wake the sleeping baby. The four-hand piano duo attempts to capture the excitement with a swaying, dance-like tempo, trying hard to constrain the volume which just wants to burst with joy.
