Description
The F.E. Olds company created some of the most famous and beloved Trumpet models of the 20th century being closing their shops down in the late 1970s. Having amassed a cult following owed in no small part to long list of music giants who played Olds trumpets.
The Olds "Recording" trumpet is an instrument held in high regard even among the esteemed Olds arsenal. Having been made from 1950 to 1979, they remained a popular choice until Olds closed down at the end of the 70s. This particular Recording being made in 1965, is a later model that retains many of the favoured design features before a decline in quality in the late 60s.
The trumpet features a .460" large bore culminating in a 4 7/8" red brass bell. The bell and lead pipe are made of "Re-O-Loy", a high-copper brass alloy unique to Olds instruments which produces a distinctive dark and rich sound offering superior projection to more standard brass alloys. The Recording performs fantastic in the upper registers of the trumpet. The high copper content in the instrument paired with the smaller bell causes the sound to brighten up while maintaining as laser beam focus to the sound.
With an offset second valve and valve block set quite forward in the chassis, the Recording is an instrument with unique ergonomics that stands both as impressive innovations and a product of its time. The trigger on the 3rd valve slide allows for greater control over the tuning of the trumpet.
***This instrument comes in a Pro-Tec Double Case and with a Bach 7C mouthpiece.
