Description
The King 3B sits comfortably among the ranks of the most highly regarded and sought after trombone models ever. It's legendary history dates all the way back to the mid 20th century. First earning its reputation in the big band era it went on to find success with all varieties of players and music types, earning praise for its ability to adapt to any genre.
three quarters of a century later, the 3B is still being made by King and is one of the longest running current horn models available with a number of different versions existing, though the vintage models tend to be held in a special regard.
This trombone is a 1985 3B Plus, featuring a larger .525" bore rather than the standard .508". This larger bore opens the instrument up for a broader sound in all ranges of the instrument, without sacrificing the classic jazz sound the horn is known for. The small shank receiver keeps the feel familiar to those familiar with small-bore horns and aids with keeping the slotting nice and tight despite the larger bore offering a larger expressive range on each note. The wider expressive and dynamic ability lends this horn to being well suited for commercial and light classical/orchestral work, while retaining a close relation to its jazz roots.
The trombone features a 8" yellow brass bell and brass outer slides, the same as the traditional 3B. The vintage nature of the horn is reinforced by the darker lacquer as well as the oldr style counterweight.
***This instrument is housed in a unbranded King-style hard case, possibly the original case that lost its badge. It comes with a Yamaha 48 small shank mouthpiece.
