The Variax Shuriken Premium Colours range began as prototype finishes presented at trade shows, as an alternative to the standard satin black finish, with the aim of broadening the instrument's appeal to a wider audience of guitarists. Given the enthusiastic reception these finishes received, Line 6 produced small runs of Shuriken Variax guitars in Premium Colours.
