The Knilling luthier heritage goes all the way back to 1922 when the name of legendary luthier Johann Knilling was placed on German violins being imported to the states for American consumers.

After World War 2, the school music boom allowed Knilling to blossom into the predominant student instrument manufacturer of the time. Now into their second century, Knilling continues to be a trusted and renowned manufacturer of student and higher quality string instruments.

The Bucharest series offered by Knilling was designed to bring a higher quality of instrument to the student market. Made in Romania, these instruments are steeped in the European tradition being made of selectively sourced Carpathian tone woods. Despite being of a laminate construction, these materials bring a stunning resonance to the instrument while offering superior stability often lacking in student instruments.

The Ebony fittings and fingerboard, Wittner Tailpiece, and Despiau bridge are all features common on professional level instrument that Knilling has equipped on their Bucharest Cellos to further the superior sound and feel.

The laminate construction is one factor responsible for the reputation of longevity tied to the Bucharest instruments. This cello being made in 2008, is testament that these instruments will still function after decades of use.
