The Z was born of Yamaha' s long and close partnership with the legendary trumpeter Bobby Shew. Bobby is an incredibly versatile player, and to meet all his playing requirements he wanted to create one super efficient instrument which could scream out a powerful lead, or play soft, mellow ballades.

This is the second generation of the Bobby Shew Artist Model Series. The primary difference between this model and the current YTR8310ZII (3rd gen) is this one has a one piece valve casing. The one piece casing offers a more solid sound with more weight behind it, resulting in an overall warmer and more rounded sound.

The 8310 features a step-bore, meaning the bore of the instruments increases in increments rather than gradually. This design is the secret to the instruments renowned facility in the higher register and flexibility throughout the entire range of the instrument. The un-braced reverse tuning slide is designed to lessen resistance for a free blowing, malleable sound. The piping culminates in a 5" one-piece hand-hammered yellow brass bell crafted especially to deliver this horns wide and vivid sound with strong projection.

***This instrument is housed in its original Yamaha hard-shell case and comes with a Bobby Shew Jazz mouthpiece.
