The Selmer Series III saxophones acts as the sister horns to the Series II which dates its lineage back to the famed Mark VI.

Designed to be the counterpart to the Series II the III has brighter sound with more focus and stronger intonation, without sacrificing the warm rounded tone for which Selmer is renowned. This had led the Series III to be favoured by classical saxophonists. By reducing weight in the body of the horn allows this instrument to vibrate more freely resulting in enhanced resonance and a stronger presence.

The Series III has also found favour with doublers primarily playing alto or tenor due to the familiar feel of the keywork. This extra praise of the ergonomics is shared again by classical players. The mechanics paired with the instruments naturally free-blowing feel with much less resistance than the Series II makes it ideal for lyrical and flowing passages. The 53JDIR also comes with two necks, curved and straight, allowing for further comfortability while playing.
