Conn - 6M - Vintage Alto Saxophone

Description

The Conn 6M Alto Saxophone is a noteable piece in American saxophone history and has stood the test of time to still be a relevant and sought after horn nearly 100 years after its production run started.

The 6M made its mark for its revolutionary key work and the flexibility of its tone. The early Conn saxophones are likewise stellar examples of solid instrument construction, the age of this horn, built in 1964, standing as testament to that fact.

Along with their excellent quality of build, old Conn saxophones are revered as some of the best examples of the classic vintage American sound, the same sound heard from the horns of many saxophone heroes heard throughout the 20th century. The flexible sound of the Conn allows it to have a bright and punchy tone with a layered, warm backend. Its great projection and wide sound provided by its larger bell, a feature synonymous with the vintage American sound.

The ergonomics of the key-layout is different than any modern equivalent. With the instruments tighter profile and bell keys on the opposite than the modern day usual, the balance of the instrument is different, its feel in your hands unique to the 6M. Another unique feature of the key work is the larger table keys, allowing you to have more options of moving your finger from key to key, making trilling and quick playing easier.

Towards the top of the horn, the neck has a unique design called a double socket, this designs adds a second bit of tubing so the neck is fastened on both sides. This tighter connection offers a better response and greater resonance of the instrument. The "underslung" octave mechanism featured on the 6M is a well regarded solution to the issue of the easily bent mechanism, as well as shrinking the mechanism for a faster response when activated.
