Description

King Instruments were not only the very first brand Long and McQuade carried, but also were one of the predominant brass instrument manufacturers of the 20th century, with a rich catalogue of instruments spanning over 100 years before the company was absorbed by Conn-Selmer at the turn of this century.

The "Liberty" model was Kings flagship model of trumpet for decades. First coming off the assembly line in 1920, the Liberty went through numerous iterations before the end of its run in 1965. This specific horn, was built in 1955 and is noted as the "Liberty #2" model. During its reign, the Liberty found much success in the homes of beginners and professionals alike, while also finding favour from likes of trumpet royalty like Donald Byrd and Harry James. In todays modern age, the horn continues to be desired for its classic sound, easy playability, and strong build quality. The condition of this horn 70 years later with minimal maintenance stands as testament to the latter.

This horn features a ML bore and a 4.5" bell. It offers a rounded, warm sound synonymous with vintage model instruments. The action is surprisingly quick given its age and the response is quick and even throughout the entire range of the instrument. This trumpet features a unique 'double tuning slide' giving player the ability to tune the horn down to A, unlocking a new range and timbral space unattainable on other trumpets. The Liberty horns have a rich history of being perfect for both students and advanced players alike.

***This horn comes in its original King case with a vintage Bach Mt. Vernons 10 1/2 C mouthpiece, both in fair condition.
