S.E. Shires is a renowned brass manufacturer with a particular specialty on trombones and other low brass instruments. While offering a plethora of models of all levels, they also a wide variety of modular trombone parts so customers can build a trombone catered especially to their individual needs. Whether it be for orchestral, jazz, or commercial playing, Shires offers some of the most desireable services available on the brass market today.

This trombone is one such example of a custom built instrument. It's a straight tenor trombone, forgoing an F attachment, which offers a lighter feel and a more direct response from the instrument. Unusual for a straight trombone, this instrument features a large bore giving a darker tone with a wider timbral range, great for solo and smaller section work.

The darker sound of this trombone is furthered by its "2RVE" two-piece, unsoldered bead, red brass bell. It's modeled on a "vintage Elkhart" design, emulating the warm vintage tones from trombone of the mid 20th century.

The slide equipped to this horn is a Shires "T25NLW", a lightweight .525" bore nickel-silver slide with a wide crook. This slide counters the heavy nature of larger bore, red brass instrument and allows for quick and even response, ensuring the player has an ideal balance between a soulful sound and the flexibility to play any variety of demanding repertoire.
