What makes a great pop/hip hop vocal recording? Is there a standard way of producing great vocals? The beauty about music is that there really isn’t a right or wrong way of creating something, but there are some best practices to help guide you. In this clinic we will show you one path you can follow to get those pop/hip hop vocals you hear on the radio.
 

  • What makes a great vocal recording?
  • Common microphones used for Pop and Hip Hop, and their sonic characteristics.
  • The various elements of a vocal chain
  • Commonly used plugins when mixing/producing vocals, and how to use them.

Each step will be showcased live, with an artist, presenting a mixed vocal by the end of the clinic

Mateo is an audio engineer, songwriter and composer with two decades of professional experience in the music industry, working for Sony and Universal Music Group, as well as mixing and creating scores for CBC, ABC, Amazon Prime and Discovery.

Producing Guitar with the UA Apollo Console: Signal Routing, FX & More

This clinic looks at signal routing, and assigning inputs & outputs in UA Console that will facilitate dual guitar amplifier emulation recording. We will review various amp modeling unison plug ins and their special features. We will also demonstrate how to set up a pleasing mix in Console, to be used for atmosphere and inspiration in recording.

Pat has over 20 years' experience in the music industry working with JUNO-, Tony- and Grammy-winning productions.

In this clinic, Ankit will discuss:

  • What is Dolby Atmos and how is it different from other audio formats?
  • Dolby Atmos in the consumer world: Configurations, Soundbars, Receivers, Smart Speakers and Music Apps (Tidal, Apple)
  • Dolby Atmos creation for music producers & audio engineers
  • Setting Up a Dolby Atmos Session/Setting up Dolby Atmos Renderer (for mixing in Pro Tools)
  • Features and abilities of mixing in Dolby Atmos format
  • Approaches in mixing for Atmos: Realistic space creation vs. Creative liberties in using space
