Lee initially studied with his grandfather, Alan hodgkins (guitarist with Django Reinhardt in the early 1940's), then went on to attend Malaspina College. Lee holds an honorary BA in Jazz Studies.
Focused on the writing, recording, distribution and promotion of original jazz compositions, Lee toured extensively throughout Canada and the UK in a group with his father, renowned saxophonist, Art Ellefson. Lee has released 14 albums of all original compositions.
As an educator, Lee has taught for over 30 years, 17 of those years at Vancouver Island University, where he taught Guitar Ensemble, Theory, and Private Tuition.
As a performer, Lee has been fortunate to have worked with Kenny Wheeler, Ian McDougall, Chris Nelson, Ken Lister, Buff Allen, Nick McGowan, Jesse Marshall, and Blaine Dunaway.
Lee helps students build a solid musical foundation both in understanding and application, utilizing ear training, development of good technique, effective practice routine, an understanding of basic theory, and insights into composition and improvisation.
Lee's lesson rate is $33.00 per half hour.
