Brad Brouwer - Drums music lessons in Lethbridge

Brad Brouwer (Drums)

Brad is a pillar in the local music community. Brad has been teaching and playing drums since 1985 with a passion for performance and music second to none. Brad studied at Grant MacEwan University, Capilano University, and University of Lethbridge. He has played extensively throughout Western Canada with various groups in multiple styles. Brad has backed and performed with several well-known artists such as Bo Diddly, Phil Dwyer, PJ Perry, Rosanna Eckert, and has also backed the U of L Big Band, the U of L Wind Ensemble, The Lethbridge Symphony, as well as several musical productions through New West Theatre, U of L Drama Department, and the Lethbridge School District. Brad is the founder, and manager of the local favourite mega-group Hippodrome. He also performs in many other local bands including HB03, and Mwansa Mwansa. Brad has been teaching at Long & McQuade since 2011.

Brenton Taylor - Voice, Piano music lessons in Lethbridge

Brenton Taylor (Voice, Piano)

Born and raised in Southern Alberta, Brenton has been performing as a musician since childhood. From musical theatre to concert band he is experienced in many genres and instruments. After studying Music and Vocal Performance at the University of Lethbridge, Brenton continues to enjoy performing and teaching music lessons in various capacities including trombone, piano and voice. Being classically trained in concert aria, opera, and art song, he also has experience and is trained in jazz, pop, and musical theatre. Brenton is an accomplished performing artist recognized throughout Lethbridge and Southern Alberta and continues to perform today.

Ellen Ortega (Piano, Theory, Preschool)

Ellen has been teaching piano and theory since 2007. Ellen completed her Bachelor of Music from the University of Lethbridge in the Spring of 2014. She has her Grade 10 piano, and Grade 4 theory from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Ellen has been teaching at Long & McQuade since 2010.

Feifei Du - Guitar, Ukulele music lessons in Lethbridge

Feifei Du (Guitar, Ukulele)

Feifei teaches acoustic & electric guitar as well as the ukulele. He has been playing guitar since 2007. As an active musician he has played on stage in concerts both in Canada and his birthplace, China. During the summer of 2014, he played with world known musician Sungha Jung, and Ulli Boegershausen at the Beijing Theatre. Feifei will attend the University of Lethbridge in the Fall of 2016 to work towards a Degree in Music Composition. He plays with several local Lethbridge musicians of different genres. His teaching specialty includes modern, and traditional finger-style guitar, and music theory. He has been teaching at Long & McQuade since 2013.

Jamie Kaufmann - Drums, Voice music lessons in Lethbridge

Jamie Kaufmann (Drums, Voice)

Jamie was born, and raised in Lethbridge Alberta, and showed interest in drumming as early as age 4. Growing up, Jamie continued to hone his craft as a drummer, playing all styles of music, preparing him to become a professional musician. In the fall of 1990 Jamie moved to Vancouver, BC to attend Capilano College to study. It was there the made the connections with other musicians to be part of the city’s vibrant music scene. While there, Jamie recorded and toured with many artists including Moist, Jet Set Satellite, Chin Injeti, Soul Decision, Michael Buble, Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench, and Colin James. In early 2003 Jamie relocated back to Lethbridge, and began a teaching practice shortly thereafter, and continues to teach drums, and share his expertise with students of all ages.

Jared offers a high quality of music education in a wide variety of styles and genres including classical, jazz, blues, rock/pop and everything in between. Each lesson is highly personalized to fit the student’s need whether it be for a performance, competition or for personal enjoyment. Jared has over 20 years of teaching and performance experience. He has experience working with children with special needs, and seniors. He was given the ‘”Prestigious Friends of 51” award in June 2013 by Lethbridge School District No. 51 for his volunteer work at Galbraith Elementary School teaching music to special needs/at risk children. Lessons in theory, history, composition/song writing, accompanying, and ear training are also available.

Julianna has completed her Bachelor of Music Degree, and Political Science from the University of Lethbridge. She has played piano for many years, and enjoys a wide variety of musical genres. As an instructor Julianna enjoys teaching students of all ages. She has experience working with young children and believes the best music lesson should be fun!

Martin Suarez (Guitar, Bass, Theory, Songwriting, Ukulele, Electronic Media)

Martin is a passionate guitar, bass and electronic media instructor. As a musician, he has played on stage in concerts both in Canada and in his home country of Ecuador. In addition to being a band manger and talented audio engineer, Martin’s vast performance experience covers a wide range of musical genres including Salsa, Reggae, Rock, Classical & Jazz. Martin is continuing his studies at the U of L in the Digital Audio Arts program.

Mathew has been playing guitar since 1999. Mathew has completed his music degree from the University of Lethbridge. He often writes, and records his own songs, as well as recording, and producing for other musicians. He plays in a few local Lethbridge bands, of different genres. Mathew focuses mainly on blues, rock, and alternative styles of guitar. Mathew has been teaching at Long & McQuade since 2012.

Megan is a flautist, as well as piccolo player, and holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Lethbridge. During her time at the U of L, Megan F. studied with Sarah Gieck and has partaken in masterclasses with Sara Hahn, Dr. Chee Meng Low, and world renowned flautist, Sir James Galway. Megan F. has enjoyed being a member of the U of L Wind Orchestra and looks forward to joining the Lethbridge Symphony on piccolo for their upcoming season. Megan F. is excited to continue her studies at the U of L as she begins her Bachelor of Education in the Fall of 2017.

Paul Holden (Guitar, Bass, Mandolin)

Paul has been teaching electric bass, guitar, and mandolin since 2001. As an active performer in Southern Alberta, Paul has played electric, and upright bass with the Turncoats, New West Theatre, The Dave Renter Jazz Quartet, Hippodrome, Texas Flood, and Mwansa Mwansa. His teaching specialty includes practical fingerboard theory, improvisation, and playing in the context of an ensemble. Paul has been teaching at Long & McQuade since 2010.

Ryland Moranz (Banjo, Guitar)

Ryland has been playing banjo since 2002. He is currently enrolled at the University of Lethbridge to work towards a Bachelor's Degree in Music. Ryland is recording and touring as a solo folk artist and as multi-instrumentalist for Leeroy Stagger. He has been teaching at Long & McQuade since 2015.

Sarah Viejou - French Horn music lessons in Lethbridge

Sarah Viejou (French Horn)

Sarah Viejou received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of Lethbridge in 2011 and 2015 respectively, studying with Dr. Thomas Staples. She has participated in masterclasses with Frøydis Ree Wekre, Radovan Vlatković, Guy Carmichael, and David Hoyt at the Domaine Forget Music and Dance Academy, and with Gary Reeves, Mary Fearon, Laurie Matiation, and Gillian MacKay at the University of Lethbridge. Since 2008 Sarah has performed regularly with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra, currently in the Principal Horn chair. Along with Dr. Staples, Fiona Chisholm, and Karly Lewis, Sarah was a featured soloist with that orchestra in 2015. She has also performed as a guest member of the Medicine Hat Symphony, Symphony of the Kootenays, and Kamloops Symphony Orchestra.

Sera is currently working towards her Bachelor of Music at the University of Lethbridge. She’s been playing violin since 2007 and has been a part of multiple music groups throughout Southern Alberta over the years. She’s well versed in both classical violin and more modern fiddle styles including Celtic, Bluegrass, Western, and more. She’s open to teaching all ages and believes that everyone should have the opportunity to experience all that music has to offer.

Tony has a passion for all things music and guitar. He started playing guitar in 2006 and has been performing various styles of music including Classical, Rock, Metal and Fingerpicking ever since. Tony started writing & recording his own material in 2016 and is now attending the University of Lethbridge to obtain a bachelor degree in Music Performance.

Vaughan Henning (Sax, Clarinet, Ukulele, Piano, Theory)

Vaughan received his Bachelor of Music in 2013, and his Bachelor of Education in 2016. He has been playing since 2005. During his career he has performed in many styles which include large Wind ensembles, Solo Classical repertoire, saxophone Quartets, Big Band Jazz, small Jazz combos, Rock groups, Musical Theatre across the Alto, Tenor and Baritone saxophones. Vaughan has been teaching at Long & McQuade since 2013.
