Brad Brouwer - Drums music lessons in Lethbridge

Brad is a pillar in the local music community. Brad has been teaching and playing drums since 1985 with a passion for performance and music second to none. Brad studied at Grant MacEwan University, Capilano University, and University of Lethbridge. He has played extensively throughout Western Canada with various groups in multiple styles. Brad has backed and performed with several well-known artists such as Bo Diddly, Phil Dwyer, PJ Perry, Rosanna Eckert, and has also backed the U of L Big Band, the U of L Wind Ensemble, The Lethbridge Symphony, as well as several musical productions through New West Theatre, U of L Drama Department, and the Lethbridge School District. Brad is the founder, and manager of the local favourite mega-group Hippodrome. He also performs in many other local bands including HB03, and Mwansa Mwansa. Brad has been teaching at our Lethbridge store since 2011 and his rate is $30 per half hour.

Brandon is currently studying saxophone performance at the University of Lethbridge. Brandon has traveled internationally with multiple ensembles and has performed with them in Taiwan and Dallas. He is a member of the U of L Wind Orchestra, U of L Jazz Ensemble, U of L Saxophone Quartet, and the B&H Jazz Sextet. He offers lessons exploring a variety of musical styles from classical and contemporary saxophone music to rock, jazz, and pop music. Brandon teaches both saxophone and piano lessons at our Lethbridge store.

Born and raised in Southern Alberta, Brenton has been performing as a musician since childhood. From musical theatre to concert band he is experienced in many genres and instruments. After studying Music and Vocal Performance at the University of Lethbridge, Brenton continues to enjoy performing and teaching music lessons in various capacities including trombone, piano and voice. Being classically trained in concert aria, opera, and art song, he also has experience and is trained in jazz, pop, and musical theatre. Brenton is an accomplished performing artist recognized throughout Lethbridge and Southern Alberta and continues to perform today. Brenton offers lessons at our Lethbridge store and his rate is $27 per half hour.

Jamie was born, and raised in Lethbridge Alberta, and showed interest in drumming as early as age 4. Growing up, Jamie continued to hone his craft as a drummer, playing all styles of music, preparing him to become a professional musician. In the fall of 1990 Jamie moved to Vancouver, BC to attend Capilano College to study. It was there the made the connections with other musicians to be part of the city’s vibrant music scene. While there, Jamie recorded and toured with many artists including Moist, Jet Set Satellite, Chin Injeti, Soul Decision, Michael Buble, Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench, and Colin James. In early 2003 Jamie relocated back to Lethbridge, and began a teaching practice shortly thereafter, and continues to teach drums, and share his expertise with students of all ages. Jamie offers lessons at our Lethbridge store and his rate is $28 per half hour.

Jared offers a high quality of music education in a wide variety of styles and genres including classical, jazz, blues, rock/pop and everything in between. Each lesson is highly personalized to fit the student’s need whether it be for a performance, competition or for personal enjoyment. Jared has over 20 years of teaching and performance experience. He has experience working with children with special needs, and seniors. He was given the ‘”Prestigious Friends of 51” award in June 2013 by Lethbridge School District No. 51 for his volunteer work at Galbraith Elementary School teaching music to special needs/at risk children. Joel Gray is a Lethbridge based musician, guitarist, and collaborative artist. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from The University of Lethbridge, as well as a Diploma in Music Performance from Grande Prairie Regional College. Joel is a very active performer in the Canadian music scene who currently plays guitar with Bailey Kate, Starpainter, Jon Martin and Lovers, and Max Hopkins. He also plays bass with Saskatchewan band The Moon Runners. Joel is very well versed across multiple genres of contemporary music and specializes in slide guitar, improvisation, and song composition. Joel teaches various music lessons at our Lethbridge location. His rate is $27 per half hour.

Judy Lavigne completed a Bachelor of Music Degree at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. She spent over 10 years as an instructor at the University of New Brunswick’s conservatory and as a music director at CFB Gagetown’s Chapels. She was also a music and movement instructor at Fredericton’s YMCA and a music instructor at Stepping Stones Seniors’ Centre. While living in Fort McMurray she was a fiddle instructor at Elsie Yanick Elementary School and a music and French instructor at Hillcrest Montesorri Academy. She also was a contract music teacher with the Fort McMurray Public School System. Judy also enjoyed performing with Keyano Theatre and teaching music at YMM Dance studio. Since moving to Lethbridge, she has reconnected with Hither and Yon, a Celtic music ensemble based in Sundre. Her students have competed at the New Brunswick Provincial Music Festival as well as the Alberta Provincial Music Festival. She has prepared students for RCM exams, Conservatory Canada Exams and The Mount Allison Local Centre Examinations. Judy loves musical theatre, classical, gospel, jazz, pop and chocolate.

Layton picked up his first pair of drum sticks when he was eight years old, and since then he has had opportunities to perform with multiple groups and schools. Layton is currently studying percussion at the University of Lethbridge, and is constantly learning and playing with both classical and contemporary groups. Layton has traveled professionally with the University of Lethbridge Jazz Ensemble, and enjoys jamming with rock and pop bands in his free time. Megan began her classical training on the violin at the age of three and has been playing ever since. She started playing the viola in youth orchestra at age 16. She has her Grade 10 violin certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Megan has been involved in a diverse array of ensembles ranging from bands to orchestras to fiddle groups. Currently Megan is recording and performing as a multi-instrumentalist with numerous projects including Junkman’s Quire, The Silkstones, Burning Bridge, and Makiisma. As an active performer in Southern Alberta, Paul has played electric, and upright bass with the Turncoats, New West Theatre, The Dave Renter Jazz Quartet, Hippodrome, Texas Flood, and Mwansa Mwansa. His teaching specialty includes practical fingerboard theory, improvisation, and playing in the context of an ensemble.
