Paulo John Rubio, born in San Miguel, Bulacan, began his musical journey on trumpet under the mentorship of his father, Rafael Rubio, conductor of the Biak-na-Bato Band, before shifting to tuba at the University of Santo Tomas. He served as Principal Tuba of both the UST Wind Orchestra and UST Symphony Orchestra and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education under Dr. Herminigildo G. Ranera. Paulo has performed with major ensembles, including the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, and Orchestra of the Filipino Youth, and has earned top prizes in NAMCYA 2020 and several international competitions.
Paulo completed his Master of Music in Tuba Performance at the University of Manitoba, where he received the Faculty of Music M.Mus Medal and won the Concerto Competition. In addition to teaching students of all ages and serving as an assistant conductor with his community band in the Philippines, Paulo is also an active tuba clinician in Winnipeg, sharing his passion for brass performance and education. Most recently, he performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada on their Horizons Tour 2024. His lesson rate is $28/half hour.
