Caleb is one of our instructors here at L&M with over a decade and a half of playing experience! Throughout his 15+ years of playing, he has been active in many scenes here in Central Alberta & beyond. He started playing in church at the age of 8 years old, where he spent much of his teenage years volunteering & playing any chance he could. Sunday Services, Youth Events, Etc. As he grew older, he transitioned into the local Punk & Metal Scene here. Where he joined and played in multiple projects over the last 5 years. At the moment, Caleb is currently enrolled in a Masterclass with Jay Postones. Drummer of Popular Progressive Metal Group, TesseracT. where he aims at advancing his playing even further. Not solely focused on one specific genre, he teaches the in’s & out’s of Pop, Rock, Metal, Funk, country & CCM / Worship. Caleb’s lessons are A-La-Carte, and his desire is to cater to each student's musical desires. Whether the lessons are just for fun, or for serious accountability & development. He’s here for it. Caleb teaches Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. His rate is $30 per half hour lesson.

Calvin has over 30 years experience in the music industry professionally as a teacher and as a musician. He has taught piano/keyboard lessons for the past 20 years, including most recently at our Kamloops location. Genres and styles taught include classical, pop, rock, R&B and jazz. As a musician Calvin has in the past performed for Rocky Mountain Tour Dinner Theatres in Kamloops B.C and with a number of musical groups ranging from duos up to 8 piece bands. He teaches Piano lessons on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and his rate is $27 per half hour lesson.

Catherine Butcher is a graduate of the University of Calgary, where she obtained her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. She also completed the Mount Royal University Advanced Performance Program while studying in Calgary with William van der Sloot and Edmond Agopian. Growing up in Lacombe, Ms. Butcher enjoyed sharing fiddle and classical music with her siblings, who are also musicians. During this time she played regularly at her local church and received her early grounding in technique and performance through her first violin teacher, Louise Stuppard.

In 2012, she won the first prize of five hundred dollars at the Lacombe’s Got Talent Show in her hometown. She also volunteered locally at Michener Extendicare senior’s home in Red Deer and played concertmaster for Naomi Delafield’s Rosedale Valley Strings Orchestra as a teenager. These experiences shaped her love of performance and contributed to a strong community-based approach to music.

That love took her to Europe as a member of the Calgary Youth Orchestra in 2018, where the ensemble performed in Austria, Hungary and Poland. Currently, Ms. Butcher is performing as a section musician with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra and teaching violin locally. She is passionate about giving back in the areas of learning and performance having completed her Master’s of Violin Performance from McGill University.

Josh Rickard is a seasoned multi-instrumentalist, composer, and music educator with over 30 years of experience in both performance and instruction. He writes music for film, television, and a variety of solo and collaborative projects, and currently performs with The Boss Novas—a contemporary surf instrumental band—as well as the Josh Rickard Trio, which showcases his distinctive jazz style. Based at our Red Deer location, Josh offers lessons for guitar students at all levels, covering a wide range of genres including Rock, Classic/Surf Rock, Punk/Pop Punk, Blues, Jazz, Acoustic Singer-Songwriter, Christian Contemporary, Country, Bluegrass, Fingerstyle, and more. In addition to guitar, he teaches Songwriting, Chanter/Bagpipes, Music Theory, Music Production, Composition, Jazz Theory, and Arrangement. Karys has been playing the piano their whole life and has over 15 years of playing experience, as well as experience playing in recitals, festivals, senior homes, and for choirs. They also play other instruments such as the violin, cello, bass guitar, and drums! Karys has won the “Adjudicators choice” award twice for the Red Deer Festival of Music in 2018 and 2022 in the “Piano plan II” class and won Honours at the Alberta Provincial Festival of Music in the level 10 & ARCT “Piano plan II” class. Karys achieved their honours in the level 8 RCM practical exam, as well as First class honours with distinction in their level 8 Theory exam. Karys has also achieved honours in levels 9, 10, and ARCT Harmony and Counterpoint. Karys takes pride in their work as a teacher and has been teaching for over 3 years at Long & McQuade. They love working with people in any age range and believe that you can learn music at any time in your life, even with no experience. Karys has lots of experience working with both kids and adults with developmental disabilities. They make sure that everyone can learn at their own pace regardless of age or ability. Richelle is a dedicated piano and voice teacher with a strong background in music and education. She holds a Music Diploma from Red Deer Polytechnic, a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Lethbridge, and a Bachelor of Education, combining artistic excellence with a versatile and inclusive teaching approach. She is currently working with English as an Additional Language (EAL) students and supporting learners with diverse needs in Knowledge and Employability (K&E) programs. She has completed Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Grade 8 Piano, Grade 7 Voice, and Advanced Theory Rudiments. Richelle has over a decade of choral experience, theatre productions and lots of opera experience. She brings a rich ensemble and classical foundation to her lessons. Outside the classroom, she performs with Jess and Friends, a musical group that shares Filipino music at cultural and community events. Fluent in Filipino, she welcomes students from all backgrounds and fosters a supportive, engaging, and joyful learning environment. Shane Holder has always had a passion for music! He enjoys all genres of music. He started learning acoustic guitar back in 2006 and has not put the guitar down since! Shane was a worship leader when he attended Unity Baptist church. He is currently attending Crossroads church and is an active member on the worship team there playing rhythm guitar with a variety of other musicians. Shane is also currently an elementary school music teacher here in Red Deer and teaches grades 1-5 music. He graduated from the University of Alberta back in 2004 with a Bachelor of Education degree and took a variety of music courses. Shane has taught in elementary schools for 20 years and comes with many different teaching strategies to help students of all ages and abilities to be successful. He understands the importance of creating engaging lessons and making learning guitar fun! Fun fact about Shane is he also worked for Westjet, Canada 3000 and Canadian North Airlines. Skylar is a Canadian soprano and music educator dedicated to sharing the joy of music with her students. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Secondary Music, both from the University of British Columbia. In recognition of her excellence in music education, she was awarded the Don Wright Scholarship in Vocal and Choral Music Education. As a performer, Skylar has appeared in opera, choral, and musical theatre productions across Canada and abroad. She has sung with the UBC Opera Ensemble, the UBC University Singers, and the Vancouver Youth Choir. Alongside her performance career, Skylar is a passionate teacher of voice, choral music, musical theatre, early music, and piano. She has taught musicians aged 3 months to 25 years in a variety of contexts, including early childhood programs that combine music, movement, and storytelling. Skylar is also trained in Orff, Kodály, Colour Strings, and Dalcroze methods, which she applies in her teaching for various age groups ranging from infants to kindergarten and primary-aged students. She fosters musical growth through both technical foundations and artistic expression, helping students build confidence, creativity, and a lifelong love of music. Tom is a woodwind multi-instrumentalist with over 20 years of performing and teaching experience. He has a diverse musical history, beginning with concert, marching, and jazz music before gravitating towards funk, ska, soul, R&B, hip-hip, prog rock, and electronic music. He is an alumnus of MacEwan University, where he studied both jazz performance and music technology. He then traveled to Victoria, BC and performed with several musical groups, at venues ranging from clubs and festivals to weddings and art galleries.
Tom is still an avid student, with a passion for music that keeps him learning. His approach to teaching is immersive, finding each student’s passion and being a guide for them to develop their skills along the way.
