Catherine Butcher is a graduate of the University of Calgary, where she obtained her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. She also completed the Mount Royal University Advanced Performance Program while studying in Calgary with William van der Sloot and Edmond Agopian. Growing up in Lacombe, Ms. Butcher enjoyed sharing fiddle and classical music with her siblings, who are also musicians. During this time she played regularly at her local church and received her early grounding in technique and performance through her first violin teacher, Louise Stuppard.

In 2012, she won the first prize of five hundred dollars at the Lacombe’s Got Talent Show in her hometown. She also volunteered locally at Michener Extendicare senior’s home in Red Deer and played concertmaster for Naomi Delafield’s Rosedale Valley Strings Orchestra as a teenager. These experiences shaped her love of performance and contributed to a strong community-based approach to music.

That love took her to Europe as a member of the Calgary Youth Orchestra in 2018, where the ensemble performed in Austria, Hungary and Poland. Currently, Ms. Butcher is performing as a section musician with the Red Deer Symphony Orchestra and teaching violin locally. She is passionate about giving back in the areas of learning and performance having completed her Master’s of Violin Performance from McGill University.

Her rate is $31.00 per half hour
