ari bautista oldale (Piano, Voice)

Ari is a classically-trained pianist, self-taught singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter with over 15 years of experience in many competitive, creative, & educational contexts. Between Ari’s involvement in the youth jazz scene and her classical piano training through RCM (Grade 9), she developed a strong passion for the world of music. While at Queen’s, she decided to pursue her interests in anatomy & the life sciences but continued to do casual freelance piano lessons and explored the collegiate a cappella scene. Between 2014 and 2018, she fulfilled positions of music director and business director for the pop/folk/R&B-inspired ensemble Trillers A Cappella and remained a member until graduating in 2020. During the past few years, her focus was to tap into a unique sound and buckle down to work on writing and producing her debut album, released in April 2023. Now looking to return to the teaching side of music, Ari hopes to use her versatile background in anatomy, music theory, education, and performance to help young pianists and singers meet their goals and have fun getting there. Her intent for future piano students is to help them develop fundamental tools every pianist needs: rhythm, reading music, understanding music theory, and developing a strong technical basis. Her intent with future voice students is similar, with the addition of helping them find their unique sound and exploring their creativity while maintaining a healthy, sustainable, and anatomically-informed singing technique.

Brian has been a violin/fiddle teacher in Kingston since 1995. He has enjoyed teaching a variety of ages, skill levels, and styles. He started learning the violin at the age of six with the Suzuki Method of classical violin technique. Brian uses the experience of twelve years of Suzuki lessons, elements of the Royal Conservatory method, and a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen’s University to make achievable short and long term goals for each student. Most of all, Brian makes learning fun! Brian is also an active musician in the Kingston music scene. When he isn’t teaching or making music, Brian is an avid house league hockey coach and backyard rink maker for his two boys.

Doug was a road band keyboardist in the days of his youth and later a restaurant pianist for the sake of his ears. He has been teaching piano in Kingston since 1998 and along the way picked up a Bachelor of Music from Queen's University. He enjoys playing and teaching in a broad range of styles including classical, jazz, pop, ragtime and anything in between, and has a knack for making lessons fun and easy for new students of all ages. He also composes in light classical and movie theme veins as well as the odd song. While studying for his music degree he was awarded the Maurice Dublin Memorial Prize in Composition. Doug's performance credits include a stint with five-time Juno Award winner Skip Prokop.

Her background most recently includes directing SONG choir, Burnham Public School Choir and group lessons at Northumberland Montessori School as well as private lessons through Cobourg Long and McQuade. She has been a performing musician in Ontario for the past ten years at such venues as Queens Frosh, Kingston Blues Fest, Harvest Festival, and many more. She has opened for various artists such as Walk Off The Earth, Mother Mother, Lights and other artists. Ivan attended Vladimir Dordevic Primary School of Music and the Borislav Stankovic Secondary School of Music in his native Belgrade. As a young adult, he moved to Kitchener, Ontario where he continued to study violin under the tutelage of Eduard Minevich, concertmaster of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra. In addition to ongoing musical studies, Ivan completed a Masters of Arts Degree in History from Queen’s University in 2001. Ivan has been teaching at our location since 2009.

Since then, Jeremy has built a robust portfolio that includes 20 years of teaching music lessons, 100s of gigs in the local music scene, performing on 200+ full length studio albums, performing 1000 concerts while touring 25+ countries. Jeremy also has his own recording studio where he composes music for television, cartoons, and YouTube, as well as records with locals and international artists. Jeremy plays all genres of music. Matt studied audio engineering at the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology and has been the owner of Longshot Records recording studio since 1997. As recording engineer/producer he has worked with many local and international artists in a wide variety of styles to produce albums, videos, and voice-overs for film. He also appears regularly as a guitarist for a variety of artists, performing at local and international venues. Matt has been teaching both electric and acoustic guitar for over 15 years, specializing in pop, rock, country and folk music.

Michael received his BMus from the University of Toronto for Composition and Piano. His music has been performed throughout Canada and Italy, having written music for ensembles ranging from solo to symphony orchestra. He also teaches composition and theory up to the ARCT level with the RCM, and will incorporate elements of both into his piano lessons as well. Michael is glad to work on exam and audition preparation, or to help a student learn to play for their own enjoyment. Patty is a Kingston singer, voice teacher and choral director (Frontenac Women’s Chorus, 2015-2020) who has performed locally with various ensembles and as a special guest for various choral and orchestral concerts since 1997. She has taught private voice lessons since 2003; taught Applied Voice in the MDM Program at St. Lawrence College (2012-2022), and comes armed with knowledge gleaned from a BMUS (Queen’s University, Voice, Distinction), a College Degree (Humber College, Jazz Vocal, Honours), a certification to teach voice at the highschool level (B.Ed, Queen’s University), many years of private lessons with voice teachers from Kingston to Toronto, plus ongoing research. Having studied and loved many genres, Patty typically performs a mix ranging from 16th-century madrigals and Traditional, to 20th Century art music and jazz/blues/musical standards, to Sting and Joni Mitchel, all in one concert.
Patty has put together a solid teaching foundation that emphasizes good breath support and healthy vocal technique with which to express the student’s unique voice in a free, well-placed, sonorous manner. This classically based technique is used for all genres to keep the voice healthy and supple, to improve range, vocal tone, flexibility and durability, and is based on anatomical knowledge of the mechanisms that support and produce the wonderful phenomenon of singing.

He endorses strong fundamentals and developmental of good drumming habits, but also likes to help his students play songs they enjoy and encourages them to perform and participate in recitals.

serhiy smetanyuk (piano)

Serhiy is from Chernivtsi in Ukraine. He studied at the Chernivtsi College of Arts and received a “diploma with distinction” as a Teacher of Piano, Music Theory (Solfeggio) and Music History. He was a trombone player in a military band for two years and played keyboards in various rock and pop bands. Serhiy started teaching music in 1985. After coming to Canada, he taught at the Saskatoon Academy of Music before relocating to Kingston and joining Renaissance Music (now Long & McQuade Kingston) in 2013. Serhiy shows a deep dedication to his students and wishes to help them achieve their musical goals, whether that's taking an RCM exam, preparing a piece for recitals, or simply learning a song they'd like to play.

sonja moller (Fiddle, Violin)

Sonja is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, where she studied violin performance under the instruction of Jerzy Kaplanek, and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy. Sonja is a board-certified Music Therapist (MTA), and is currently pursuing her Suzuki teaching certifications. Her teaching methodology is heavily influenced by the Suzuki Method; in her lessons she fosters joy, and she believes that every person can develop musical ability. Influenced by her experience as a music therapist working with individuals who have disabilities and special needs, Sonja utilizes her students’ strengths to help them develop and achieve their goals. Sonja is passionate about helping students explore a wide array of musical genres, and teaches both classical and fiddle/traditional styles.
Sonja has performed locally at various venues in Kingston including the Isabel Bader Centre, as well as across Canada and internationally. Her most recent performances include a five-concert tour of China, and Michael Buble’s tour stop in Halifax, NS.

Emerging from the 1960's rock 'n roll, R&B and jazz scene in London, Ontario, Tim's musical career has included shows with Roy Orbison and Ronnie Hawkins, performances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and a gala performance for Ronald Reagan during a stint as musical director of the showband Explosion.For 15 years Tim augmented his performing career by teaching for two school boards and a community college in Hull, Quebec. During that time his Heritage College Big Band won a national award and were commissioned by members of Duke Ellington's family to perform some of Ellington's religious works. Currently Tim is performing and recording with various Eastern Ontario acts, teaching Saxophone Performance at St. Lawrence College here in Kingston, and joined our Lesson Centre in 2017.

Violetta has recently resettled in Canada from Mariupol and she wants to spread her love for music by teaching it in a joyful environment. She mainly played classical music but is eager to teach some popular music as well. While studying, Violetta has taken part in multiple competitions.
