Andrew Bent - Drums music lessons in Regina

Andrew Bent (Drums)

Andrew has been playing drums since the age of 12. He finished in the Canadian top 10 in the Roland V-Drum Solo Contest in 2013 and 2014. He is also an accomplished guitar player. Andrew focuses on teaching standard groove elements, common coordination, and note reading, as well as encouraging improvisational skills. He is very versatile on the kit, teaching several different styles of music including rock, metal, pop, funk and jazz. Andrew currently teaches drum lessons to all ages at our Regina location.

Ashley is fluent in many different styles of music including popular, jazz, classical and arranging and creativity. She has completed an extensive teacher training program and continues to work on advanced levels of RCM piano and theory. Becca O'Krancy (Piano)

Becca started learning the piano in 1997, when she was 4 years old, at Long & McQuade under the instruction of Kristine Beer. She also enjoyed learning the violin for 5 years and was a member of the band The Sax Pistols for 4 years. Becca is currently working on advanced Royal Conservatory piano and theory and is very excited to be teaching piano lessons at Long & McQuade Regina.

Ben Redant (Piano, Voice)

Ben has been playing music since a very young age and has completed RCM Grade 8. Ben has worked extensively all over Saskatchewan as an accompanist and musical director, specializing in musical theatre. His show credits include Smokey Joe’s Cafe for Regina Summer Stage, Avenue Q and The Rocky Horror Show for Sterling Productions, and The Marvellous Wonderettes and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee for Souris Valley Theatre. He has also taken the stage professionally with several companies, including Regina’s Globe Theatre as an actor and musician, recently performing in 2015’s Ring of Fire. Ben has been offering piano and voice lessons in Regina since 2015.

Brad Evanochko (Guitar, Bass, Rock Skool)

Brad teaches a wide variety of musical styles on the guitar and bass including pop, rock, jazz, blues, and country. Brad has been teaching acoustic and electric guitar and bass since the mid 90's to all ages and abilities. Brad’s strengths include musical theory and technique, melodic improvisation and progressions, composition and ear training. He is involved with local band Sonic Orchid, has recorded and released albums, and performed at many venues throughout Western Canada including the annual summer festival Craven Rock Weekend. He also actively performs in local cover band Dangerous Cheese and 90’s rock band Whatever. Brad is also the coach and instructor for Long and McQuade's very popular Rock Skool program.
Brad offers guitar lessons at the Regina location and his rate is $24 per half hour.

Brandon has been playing the drums since the mid 2000's and has been teaching since 2013. Brandon has played and toured with the Ukraine Poltava Orchestra and has also played in a hand drumming group known as “Tribal Vibes”. He has played in multiple other bands ranging from rock to jazz. He strongly believes in the equality of all limbs and how to apply rudiments effectively on the kit.

Brenda is a certified elementary and intermediate specialist through the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has been teaching piano, organ, guitar, and voice since 1980. Brenda has experience with MIDI and multi-track recording, she composes and arranges music for herself and her students, and she prepares students for Royal Conservatory examinations and music festivals. Brenda believes in continuous learning and professional development, and is always looking for new ways to teach concepts in private lessons and master classes. Her unique teaching approach has motivated students to become teachers, recording artists, composers, and to generally enjoy making music. Brenda’s students benefit from her lineage, a 3rd generation student of Beethoven.

Brendan is a multi-talented instructor, having experience in piano (fifteen years), voice (six years), and trumpet (eight years). Brendan studied both piano and voice at the University of Regina, achieving a Music Education degree specializing in voice. Since then, he has been teaching privately. Outside of instructing music, Brendan has performed with Saskatchewan Express, and works as a substitute teacher within the Regina Public and Catholic school system. Brendan has achieved his Grade 6 Royal Conservatory Piano, and is currently working on grade IX.

Brianna has been playing violin and clarinet since early childhood. She has participated in ensembles with both instruments and has competed in violin festivals where she has placed 1st the past two years. Brianna was a member of the Southern Saskatchewan Youth Orchestra in 2014 and 2015. She was trained in the Suzuki method, and is able to play both classical and contemporary. Brianna continues to train and develop her skills.

Brodie has been performing for over 15 years and teaching guitar for a decade. He's toured internationally with artists like Jeff Straker, and Megan Nash. He specializes in many styles but particularly students looking to hone their skills in jazz and classical. He puts an emphasis on music reading, improvisation and theory. Students will be encouraged to pick up Bridges guitar technique and Berkeley's Modern Method for Guitar.

Burns has been playing guitar and bass since the early 90's and has been teaching since 2005. He has had extensive training in a wide variety of musical genres including jazz, blues, folk, and metal. Burns has received his advanced theory certificate with the Royal Conservatory of Music and is continuing his studies of advanced harmony. He has performed with many groups over the past 20 years including a church worship group, and his latest project The Android Jackie O.

Carter Powley (Woodwinds, Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute)

Carter's sessions focus on fundamentals of technique, harmony, sight-reading, ear training, musical form and history, and repertory. Students are introduced to the physical aspects of wind instrument performance such as posture, breath support, and hand position.
Topics can include style, jazz/pop improvisation, music analysis, transcription, arranging, composition, and many other areas of focus students may be interested in.
Materials are chosen based on the capabilities of the individual student, and existing materials such as ensemble music and solos are welcomed.

"Carter Powley is an active freelance saxophonist, clarinetist, flautist, composer/arranger, and educator, holding degrees in music composition and education from the University of Regina. His repertoire both as a player and writer ranges from jazz to classical, funk, rock, latin, blues, and more.

His influences and idols have included Charles Mingus, Michael Brecker, and Chris Potter and he has shared the stage with Canadian jazz icon P.J. Perry, guitar virtuoso Jack Semple, long-time jazz bassist Peter Dyksman, pianist Bob Moyer and his Big Band, Michael Kaeshammer, vocalist Kevin Mohagany, Karen Plato, Jason Marsalis, Ranee Lee, singer/songwriter and Juno nominee Alysha Brilla, and 'Tower of Power' drummer Herman Matthews.

Teachers have ranged from jazz pianist Ken Jefferson to classical saxophonist Karen Finnsson and composer Alain Perron. Carter has been an active educator in Regina for over a decade both privately and in school band programs. Many have recognized Powley’s gifts both for writing and playing and as a freshman at the U of R he had his works performed by professional orchestras in Kitchener-Waterloo and Regina. Carter can be found performing in many settings in Regina and throughout Saskatchewan and beyond."

Christie is a recent graduate of the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Music Education majoring in voice. She also has her RCM grade 6 in piano. While growing up in Calgary, Christie attended a performing visual arts school for singing and continued her musical development when moving to Regina in 2008. Throughout her years of study, Christie has been committed to various choral groups as well as studied piano, basic woodwinds, and percussive instruments. Christie is a strong believer in setting personal goals to influence growth and better ones musical skills and abilities.

Ellen began her musical training studying classical violin. She has been a teacher at Long & McQuade’s Lesson Centre since 2008. As an accomplished musician, she is proficient with both the violin and cello. She specializes in group lessons and teaching children under the age of ten, but welcomes students of all ages and levels of experience. Her lessons involve a mixture of all styles of music; including the Royal Conservatory of Music repertoire, the Suzuki method and various popular/contemporary fiddling styles. The student’s interests and goals are the inspiration for the way her lessons are planned. Ellen has recently co-developed and piloted a preschool aged music program - Music & Movement.

Jack has a BA in Theory and Music History and has been playing the banjo and fiddle for over 30 years. He started teaching in 1995 and has experience teaching all ages of students in both private and group lessons. Jack has played with bluegrass/folk and bluegrass/country bands, including Home Brood, Citybilly, and Cactus Jack and the Rounders. He has performed at the Regina Folk Festival and The Big Valley Jamboree. He is currently a member of Binder Twine and the Bales. Jack teaches 5 string banjo, fiddle and mandolin in many styles including Celtic, Cape Breton and classical.

Joe started playing drums in 1987 at the age of 5, and has continued to heavily pursue the instrument ever since. He began teaching in 2005, and has been an instructor with Long & McQuade since 2014. Prior to teaching, Joe studied in the Berkeley Music Program at Selkirk College in Nelson B.C. He has been involved in several punk and heavy metal bands creating/performing original music since the age of 14 and won an award for best music production from the Saskatchewan Drama Association at the age of 17. Joe is able to teach a wide range of genres from jazz sambas to heavy metal, and is enthusiastic about helping students develop their own solid stage presence.

Meghan was born and raised in the heart of Saskatchewan and has been playing piano and singing since she was six years old. She started writing songs in her adolescence and began to perform these songs publicly when she was seventeen. Meghan has completed four years of her Bachelor of Music Therapy degree and is working on finishing her music therapy internship hours. Meghan began her post secondary education as a Vocal Major at the University of Regina and received an honours mark on her Grade 8 Voice Exam with the Royal Conservatory of Music. She recently took her Advanced Harmony exam with the Royal Conservatory of Music as well.

Meghan has experience working with children with ADD, ASD, CP and ABI as well as children dealing with behavioural issues. She received Rawlco Radio’s 10K20 grant to create her album, I Don’t Want Your Roses, in 2010 and recently released a follow up album, The Watchmen, in 2015 with funding from Creative Saskatchewan.

Natalia has her Bachelor of Music Performance and Music History from both the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City, and the University of Regina – where she is completing her Masters in Music Theory. She is an accomplished performer, having previously played as 1st violinist with the Regina Symphony Orchestra under the guidance of Concertmaster Eduard Minevich, and is currently active in Artime, the Regina Community Orchestra, Concertino Regina, and the Ben Winoski Project. She’s also a member of Early Music America. Aside from playing in the RSO, Natalia studied Cello under the former Principal Cellist, Cameron Lowe. Phil Bouchard - Guitar, Bass, Double Bass music lessons in Regina

After 10 years of academic studies on both Bass and Guitar, Quebec city native Philippe Bouchard, settled in Regina this year. Always looking for new ways to tap into the expressive potential of the guitar, he has played and studied various styles, including Blues, Folk, Rock and Jazz. This first-hand experience of contemporary guitar paired with his knowledge of theory and his classical training has contributed to his well-respected status as a music teacher. He has been teaching with enthusiasm since 2013.

While obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Music (Jazz and Popular Guitar performance) at Université Laval, Philippe studied extensively with Gabriel Hamel, Joel Thibault and Rafael Zaldivar. He also attended private lessons and Masterclasses with New York based musicians Gilad Hekselman (Guitar), Ari Hoenig (rhythm) , Marc Copland (contemporary Harmony) and Matthew Stevens (Guitar). In 2016 he won the Université Laval’s Jazz composition and arranging contest and performed at the renowned International Montreal Jazz Festival.

Roberta Wallace (Violin)

Roberta is an accomplished violin and fiddle player currently completing her Bachelor of Music in Music History at the University of Regina. She holds the position of concertmaster of the University Orchestra and has previously performed with the Regina Symphony Orchestra. In addition to classical violin, Roberta plays old-time, Irish and Cape Breton fiddle, having studied in Nova Scotia for two years. Active in the fiddle scene in Saskatchewan, she has taught at the Kenosee Lake Kitchen Party, and plays with the Celtic band West of Mabou - who have released their first CD, available on iTunes December 2016 (http://westofmabou.ca/)! She also holds her Royal Conservatory Grade IX in piano, and regularly accompanies students in lessons and recitals. Stephen is an experienced trumpet player, performer, and band teacher.  He is a graduate of the U of R music education program and has been teaching and playing professionally in the Regina and surrounding area for almost 10 years.  He is a multi-instrumentalist who has enjoyed playing music in classical, jazz, and rock settings.  He has taught individual music lessons as well as group band classes to students of all ages and abilities.  Students can expect material that will be adapted to their individual needs and can include the student's current band repertoire and solo work to supplement their playing.  Stephen is experienced in instruction in classical music as well as jazz, rock, and other genres.  Expect a strong focus on fundamentals, tone, and music theory.
