The MixPre-6M puts the fun back into music recording! This 2-in-1 device gives musicians a studio-grade multitrack recorder and high-performance USB audio interface to help capture each moment of inspiration.

• Track Laying
• Overdub
• Punch In/Out
• Reverb & Vocal Air
• Metronome
• Bounce
• Render (Import & Export)

Portable DAWless Studio
The MixPre-6M's musician-focused features simplify typical computer-based music creation by removing barriers to capture ideas and songs. The MixPre allows you to simultaneously record, playback, mix, monitor, layer, and overdub up to 12 tracks - all without a DAW! And if you need more, the bounce feature helps free up tracks.

The MixPre-6M features a built-in metronome to help keep your performance in time, while premium-quality, silky-smooth reverb and vocal air effects add depth to your recordings, and can also inspire a great performance. The vocal air effect is an easily dialed-in combination of EQ and compression that results in a breathy intimacy to vocals, popular today with singer/songwriters.

When you record music you will also appreciate the convenience of features such as punch in and out, and ability to locate to cue points.

Exceptional Audio Quality
The MixPre-6M features four, high-performance, ultra-low-noise Sound Devices' Kashmir microphone preamps. These custom-engineered preamps feature discrete, Class-A front-ends with analog limiters offering the highest quality, distortion-free audio recordings that far surpass those of other recorders using simple off-the-shelf, IC-based mic preamps.

Premium USB Audio Interface
The versatile MixPre-6M operates as a 8-in/4-out USB audio interface with quality that rivals a stand alone converter paired with boutique preamps. The MixPre-6M features the unique ability to simultaneously record to an SD card while streaming audio via USB, ideal for recording computer-based software instruments, or backing up your takes while youre tracking to a computer.

Versatile I/O Routing
The MixPre-6M offers four balanced XLR/TRS combo Mic/Line level inputs (each with 96dB of gain, 48v phantom power, low cut filters and limiters), a 3.5mm 2-channel Aux/Mic input, and four USB inputs from a MAC or PC. You can route any of these physical inputs to any channel knob, so you don't have to have to re-plug inputs when you want to record an input to a different track. Metronome can also be selected as an input, so you can record its click to a discrete track.

The MixPre-6M's unbalanced output and stereo headphone output can be individually configured, providing multiple options for monitoring.

Metering and Monitoring
The MixPre-6M incorporates a mixer that offers easy-to-read ring LEDs and LCD metering with limiter activity for multitrack, mix, and USB return metering.

The MixPre also includes a powerful and clean custom-designed headphone amplifier enabling you to hear your recordings in their full glory, and efficiently monitor with a wide range of headphone impedances.

I purchased this unit in a recent return to recording after a several years away. I wanted to catch sounds and ideas using my ears MORE and my eyes LESS. This thing does it. The preamps have TONS of clean gain for any mic (even ancient dynamic and crystal mics from the 1940s) You will hear your hair growing before you will hear any noise from these things. The (optional) limiters and hi-pass filters will keep you out of trouble. The screen is not huge, true, but you can still see what you need to see. I use it with a USB keyboard to fly around the menus and enter text but the turn-and push knob with the touch screen is perfectly serviceable. I keep it on a desk mic stand with the integral camera tripod mount to keep it near eye level when seated. It does not have a Hi-Z input so i docked a half-pint for Features. I use a Sansamp Para Dirver DI for those applications and the two devices play well together. The stereo Aux output makes it great as a 2-channel input for my Akai MPC Live (which does not have mic preamps built-in) Batteries: with the included battery sled and 4 Alkaline AA batteries you will get a little over 1 hour unplugged. I bought some rechargeable AAs and use them as a backup in case the power ever blinks. I have not tested it but word is that LI AA will get you about 6-8 hours) It sounds great, it fits in my coat pocket. Get yourself one. You'll wonder how you did without it.

This thing turned out to be useful in more ways than I expected. The preamps are SUPER clean with crazy amounts of clean gain. You will distort your mic signal way before you hear any appreciable noise from the preamps. The (defeatable) limiters keep you out of trouble. The Hi-Pass filer on each input is super useful. The reverb on each channel is quite nice. No Hi-Z input so one docked half-point. Sounds great on mic'd acoustic instruments and DI guitars and bass (Sansamp Para Diver DI is a great match with it) .Alkaline batteries only last about an hour. I got a set of rechargeables to use as backup power in case of a mains hiccup. The whole thing fits in a coat pocket. This is just the standalone features- It is also excellent at a 2-channel input (using the stereo Aux outs) for my Akai MPC Live (which does not have on-board preamps) plenty of clean gain for any application. I have not used it with a DAW yet but I am certain it would perform input duties beautifully for that setup. Great communications through FB with Sound Devices with some bonehead questions I had when I misread the (quite well-written) manual. A superb choice for a standalone recorder for those of us who tire of staring at screens when we make music. Get one today!

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
