After a lot of searching, comparing and indecisiveness, I finally broke down and picked up a set of these yesterday. I went with these over the Golden Slaps because of the thicker gauge, I prefer a thicker string in general, especially for faster slap playing. I can tell you, without exaggeration, these are the absolute BEST strings I've ever used. I play an Eastman VB80 (nothing fancy, just a cheaper laminated bass), doing primarily rockabilly and blues with a bit of bluegrass here and there. So, all of my playing is slap and plucking, no arco...so if you're looking for information on how they perform with a bow, sorry...can't help ya. Here's what I can tell you though: for plucking, these strings sound HUGE. Loud and defined with MASSIVE bottom end and great sustain. For slapping, they have a wonderfully loud, aggressive click (more aggressive than gut but not as intense or overwhelming as steels) and again, great sustain. They have a bit more tension than the Golden slaps but are still relatively low, that coupled with the thicker gauge makes these amazing to slap (hence the name), much easier on the fingers than other strings I've played. As the break in/stretch in more they'll sound even better, and with the top quality construction they should be long lived. Bottom line? If you're looking for strings with gut like tone, tons of volume, huge low end and aggressive attack, that are also easy on the fingers, give these a try, you won't regret it.

I had these strings on my bass for several months. The pizzicato tone was one of my favourites that I've heard. The strings have a huge bottom end and the winding gives them a subtle (when broken in) growl that is brighter than plain gut/synthetic but darker than wound. They are quite large in diameter, making them easy to grab however I found that they were a bit stiff to slap on my bass. The reason I moved on to another string is that the psychos are not a good arco string. I found it near impossible to escape the squealing overtones produced by the bow which turned out to be a deal breaker. Overall I'd say these are a great sounding pizz string for roots/ trad/ old school music, a decent slap string (on my setup anyway) and not a good bowing string at all.
