One strum of the Honey Dipper transports you back 80 years to a hobo jungle just off the tracks, where wandering workers congregate in camaraderie and where the comforting and captivating strains of a real all-metal resonator guitar waft through the smoke of oil-drum fires and enchant the ears with a sound like raindrops beating on a rusty pump house roof. The very sound and look of this fine Gretsch creation will make you want to free yourself of the damning confines of your office, your cubicle or whatever it is that enslaves you and hop the next train to anywhere with a smile on your face as big as the sky and a song in your heart.

A great sounding guitar! It's loud. It has that classic resonator single cone tone! It's a good value for the money. My only complaint is that the neck doesn't 'feel' solidly fastened to the body. That said, it holds its pitch pretty well. I play in open D, G, C as well as standard tuning with it. It played so well out of the box, I still have yet to get it set up almost a year on.

I just got this thing it it really sings. It plays very well out of the box and seems very well made. I love the extra midrange. It seems to have a bit more than most resos and the top end is smooth and not as scratchy as some metal bodies. Can't wait to get a pick up on it and plug it in to one of my great old amps. Got blues...oh ya!

If I have any niggles against the Gretsch Honey Dipper it's that the thing needs to be about 50 years older to look like a proper bluesman's instrument. The sound is there, the feel is there, but it's waayyy too clean. Having said that, I am really pleased with the overall look, feel and (most importantly) the sound. It plays very well right out of the polystyrene box; in tune, intonation pretty much bang on, and obviously well put-together. For a made in China instrument this one's a keeper. The strings on it are slightly heavy, which actually helps with that lovely crisp Son House twang. It seems to project extremely well (it's LOUD) yet responds to subtleties well. It's equally comfortable playing finger style/slide/both, and I find myself getting more and more motivated to improve my picking style as a result. Conclusion: an excellent guitar. Affordable, heavy, wonderful appearance and solid construction.
