Well back into the 1990s and right up to this day, Troy Van Leeuwen has contributed deftly textural guitar work and atmospherics to some of alt-heavy rock's most acclaimed and forward-thinking bands. From the influential '90s alternative of Failure to A Perfect Circle, Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal, Puscifer and others, Van Leeuwen's multi-instrumental expertise has given great color and power to a great deal of very creative rock music.

The Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster guitar is as distinctive as the sounds he wrings from it. Its gloss Oxblood finish with a four-ply red tortoiseshell pickguard is darkly alluring, with the interestingly contrasting touch of two white witch hat control knobs. The dual tone circuits (lead, rhythm) use a two-way toggle switch on the upper horn rather than the customary slider switch, and the brass-saddle Mustang bridge is combined with a Jazzmaster tailpiece. Other features include a maple neck with C-shaped profile and heel-end truss rod adjustment, 7.25-radius bound rosewood fingerboard with 21 vintage-style frets and pearloid block inlays, two American Vintage '65 Jazzmaster single-coil pickups with three-way toggle switching, and vintage-style tuners. Hard-shell case included.

This guitar need the Johnny mar bridge in it (or a mastery) or the outer strings will sit too high off the fretboard

I'm not going to say much more than what has already been said and that this guitar is awesome! From researching I had a Mastery bridge installed when it got to the shop and before I even had it in my hands. It is very comfortable with a chunky neck and the contours of the body just forms to you. This is my first Jazzmaster. More of a Tele and Strat guy but, man!.... Two things that aren't really anything but I'll mention is that the scale length really is long. Feels funny when sitting to relax and your arm is wayy out with your wrist slightly twisted while strumming, and I am 6'6". Don't know if it's just that my hands are bigger or if it's the way I strum but I tend to knock the lower toggle into middle or neck when getting a bit more into it. I don't know if if the neck binding would bug anyone but the edging on it is more squared shaped than smoothly rounded. Not a problem IMO. The upper frets are on their way to getting sharp but I have a file for it and have been dealing with that on every guitar I've had accept two. Anyway... Highly recommended!!

I purchased this guitar last October at the Kingston location, having no previous experience with the Jazzmaster as a whole (I'm a Telecaster and Stratocaster guy), and I don't regret it in the slightest. I love the fact that Troy Van Leeuwen (who is one of my absolute favourite musicians) chose to replace the tone circuit slider with the toggle, but kept the circuit intact. The tone i can get out of this guitar, regardless of amp, is ABSOLUTELY WILD!! It is also very versatile, and it had me noodling along to "Stray Cat Strut" effortlessly, with the ability to shape the tone to emulate other guitars almost seamlessly. I've never been the biggest user of Vibrato tailpieces, but I've almost never had this much fun with a single guitar before. The Vibrato is extremely smooth, and the arm is set up in such a way, that the arm doesn't swing freely when you let go of it after using it, which was one of the main reasons I never used one and they seemed to have remedied that with this guitar. The neck is a bit chunky, which is what I prefer, due to my experience with Telecasters and the SRV Strat (which has one of my all-time favourite neck profiles). The '65 pickups are a huge included bonus, as you are paying about half the price of the USA '65 reissue and getting something that's even more unique. This is a perfect example of "Ignore the MIM sticker", it is that good. If I had one or two real gripes, which is more of a non-issue, it would be that this guitar does not come terribly well set up from the factory, as L&M ordered mine directly from Fender. This was remedied quickly under the warranty and I haven't had any trouble since. My second "issue" is that the guitar does not come with a Mastery bridge as standard (as Troy Van Leeuwen himself wanted), but with a mustang bridge. I play slightly heavier strings (10-52) and the low E and A strings didn't stay seated in the saddles very well, as I can be a bit heavy handed. Otherwise, If you keep this guitar with standard 10-46 strings, then the mustang bridge should work just fine and you shouldn't have any real issues. I did, however install a Mastery bridge several months ago at the strong recommendation of a friend of mine (who actually owned a '65 reissue), and it was a somewhat costly, but well worthwhile expense which has the guitar playing even better than before. So to sum it up, this guitar is 11/10 worth your money if you're looking for something well made, finished in a really cool colour, with some primo pickups and electronics, as well as having very versatile switching. However, I would also strongly recommend installing a Mastery bridge to those players looking to get this, who use heavier strings (10-52 and heavier). Overall it's a great guitar that's only made better when you put your imagination to it.

Wonderful guitar. A little pricey, perhaps, but then again it comes equipped with US-made vintage spec pickups and a Fender hard case. The fit and finish are excellent for the most part. precision work on the block inlays, very nice. Flawless paint, tidy electrical work, polished frets. Neck needed a set up, so did the intonation and bridge. Frets a little rough higher up the neck was a shame, but fixable. In all the photos advertising the TVL the top E string runs too close to the edge of the fingerboard. i was worried that the Mustang bridge (runs 55mm across, the JM bridge runs 52mm). This isn't a problem when you set it up correctly, and I find my JM plays well at all points of the fretboard. The neck is a fine, flamey quarter-sawn hunk of maple. The body is alder, which is light but highly resonant. I'm pleasantly surprised at the extended sustain mine manages to hold. The sound is as good as any AVRI that I've heard, which is what I would expect. The little mod chrome switch on the upper bout isn't as useful as i had expected, as I tend to flip it accidentally when playing. No biggie, but the original slider would have worked fine for me. Overall, I am delighted with this instrument. I had a long wait for it to get to the store, but it's now my favourite and I can barely put it down. As ever, thanks to JF at Victoria L&M for outstanding customer service.

I spent weeks upon weeks upon weeks researching Jazzmasters and Jaguars. I have small hands, and I really like the 24" scale on the Jaguar. But I knew I ultimately wanted a Jazzmaster because I preferred the tone. I was apparently okay with certain JMs as long as they had a 7.25" neck radius. That only left a few JM models to choose from. I played many different models. I was considering the 60s Classic Lacquer JM but wasn't 100% sold on the colour. It is otherwise an absolutely gorgeous guitar with a wonderfully fast neck and great pickups. Very fun and easy to play! I frequented the L&M site often to see what store had what model in stock. When I saw that Burlington had this particular model, I kind of freaked out! I thought "oh, it'll be gone by the time I get there". NOPE! When I first saw it, I was in total awe. The oxblood body is incredibly beautiful in person, and changes depending on the lighting. It SPARKLES. The blocks and binding are gorgeous. The neck is fast and easy to play. The tuners feel GOOD to use! The pickups in this guitar DO NOT HUM! I was completely captivated but worried about how I'd pay for it. I went home and ruminated for several days over Christmas. I walked into the Burlington store on the evening of the 30th, talked to Matt again for a few minutes and tested out the guitar yet again. It felt GREAT to play. It was inspiring to play! That was IT! Pack it up! Financing for 12 months? YES! I am stupendously overjoyed with this guitar. The folks at the Burlington store are very flexible with payment options and empathetic to struggling musicians. I'm truly grateful. I absolutely friggin' ADORE this guitar! Thank you for reading this lengthy review, and I hope it pushes you over the edge. Get this guitar!

I went in to L&M one day to buy some strings and accessories but this guitar caught my eye. As a huge QOTSA fan, I had to sit down and noodle with it for a bit. After about ten minutes, I was at the front counter paying for it. This is the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. The neck is absolutely perfect. Everything was perfect as far as being setup well and nothing has changed in the year that I've had it. I've been trying to justify buying a second one to have just in case something ever happened to the first one.

I've had this guitar for a few months now and it's become the best guitar i own. I have Other Fenders, Gretsch and Gibson guitars also. It sounded perfect right out of the box. The features are great, i love the bound neck with inlays. the neck is full and very comfy to play. the pick ups sound really great. the bridge change is nice, the strings don't pop out of the saddles. it comes with a really nice case. i think overall this guitar well priced for what you get.

Needs a setup right out of the box. A little expensive for a MiM. Other than that, this guitar feels, looks and sounds amazing.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
