I own this. It's an amazing drum machine. I love it for portability (lightweight, can run on batteries) and ease of use. Basically can't think of another drum machine so easy to learn to use and work with. It is marketed for hip-hop music, but could go for few other genres too (however for rock/metal better get the Alesis drum machines, which are the same but with different drum kits and layout). If interested, go see some Youtube videos. There are lots of tutorials and demos on Youtube, even I did some. Good: Easy to use and learn, great breakbeat/hip-hop samples, some effects. Very flexible on creating your own drum kits and patterns. Super easy to jam with. Pads light with a nice blue light and are very easy to tap on. Very easy to use as an external drum module (on Youtube I show demonstration with my Yamaha drums) Bad: If you want to save your patterns externally for backup, MIDI dump is the only way. Overal: If you cannot afford an MPC, this is your machine. If you want an easy machine - this is your machine again. If you want the ability to use your own or just new recorded samples in a drum machine - better get an MPC or another sampler.

This is an awesome beat station. One thing is it doesn't have USB connectivity but it has l/r mono and phone outs. So you need to record to your computer or a workstation hard drive and then export to computer for mastering etc. The instruction manual is pretty good but YT videos helped. The premise is that you make a song by joining patterns. Typically there are 4 patterns in a song - A (verse), B (chorus), A-fill, and B-fill. You can also introduce variety by muting/unmuting instruments and layers while a song is playing or recording. There is a vast sound library of over 700 sounds and personally this is all I will need for a long time. Thanks L&M
