Nuvo Flutes have a beautiful tone and many practical features that make them ideal for beginners of all ages.

The Nuvo jFlute is made from durable ABS plastic resin which makes it almost half the weight of a regular silver flute. The light weight coupled with the curved head joint means that much less physical stress is put on the student. This reduces fatigue and aids concentration which means practice is more enjoyable and progress is faster.

The jFlute is fully chromatic with the same fingering as a regular concert flute. It plays with a loud and resonant tone which teachers and flute performers have described as astonishing. The durability of the instrument also enhances the learning process as students can be encouraged to keep the instrument out of its case without fear of damage. This results in more frequent and spontaneous practice. The jFlute is also waterproof which means it can be used for marching band and it can also be washed frequently in warm soapy water to keep it hygenic. It can even be played in the swimming pool or shower!

The jFlute kit includes a smart semi-hard case with carry strap as well as a cleaning stick, left hand key extensions, tool kit and o-ring grease. The kit also includes the patented removable "Firstnote" lip plate. The recorder-like mouthpiece enables the student to immediately produce a tone. This is very encouraging and enables the student to concentrate on posture and fingering before moving on to learn the correct embouchure with the regular lip plate.

The jFlute plays down to low D and can be upgraded when the student is ready by purchasing the jFlute Upgrade Kit which includes a straight head and a C-foot joint. The jFlute also has removable key caps. Colored key caps are available to personalize the flute or for colour coding as a teaching aid.

This flute is very light and has a recurved headjoint. It is designed to make it easier for small children to play. I'm an adult with small hands, tendonitis and fibromyalgia, and I can't comfortably play my normal flute anymore. I can play this. The lighter weight and recurved headjoint make it much easier physically. I also like the extention on the Ab since I have short pinkie fingers. I would recommend that people with hand/arm problems that interfere with playing the flute, or are smaller children who have trouble reaching on a normal flute give this a try before giving up on the flute - although the piccolo also works, so consider that too.
As an instrument, this is functional but not perfect. It has a mellow, gentle tone that is quite nice but not very bright. My main complaint is that the action feels mushy, and it makes it harder to play very fast passages as accurately as I want to. This irritates me. If you get the long headjoint and normal length foot, I've found that the combination of the curved head and normal foot doesn't play low C well. It is hard to get it to speak properly.
I've actually ended up playing the piccolo more than this, because a normal piccolo is no harder on my body, and I can buy a better-quality instrument that doesn't have issues with the action on fast passages. It is really nice to have a wind instrument that isn't piccolo/soprano recorder level high-pitched, though!
