Composer: Oliver Nelson
Editor: Bob Curnow
Format: Score and Parts
Instrumentation: Jazz Ensemble (5-4-4-3, opt. 5th trombone)
Style: 6/4 Swing
Solos: Alto, Trombone, Drums
Level: Medium-Advanced
As recorded by the Oliver Nelson Orchestra, "Ku-Damm" is the 1st movement of the Impressions of Berlin suite. Based on the blues, as so much of Oliver's music was, this bright swing (waltz feel) starts with an aggressive line for woodwind doubles and adds to its intensity with the entrance of the trumpets a short while later. There is solo space for alto saxophone, trombone, and piano. This lively, moving composition is sure to bring an exciting contrast to any program!
