The VT-747SP combines a stereo tube-discrete Class A spectral-opto-compressor, with a six band program equalizer. With left/right output level and gain reduction metering, and internal regulated power supplies, the unit is ideal for high performance DAW input signal conditioning (like stereo keyboards), stereo buss compression/EQ and analog mastering applications.
The opto-compressor features a minimum signal path design, utilizing sealed silver relays for all signal routing and by-pass functions. The optical attenuator of the VT-747SP acts as a passive level controller, with a Class A, variable gain make-up amplifier. Full dynamic control, from soft compression to hard-knee limiting can be achieved with master threshold, ratio-compression, attack and release controls. Gain reduction is displayed on the large analog VU meter, while low frequency and high frequency parametric spectral controls with variable frequency and threshold levels, can be routed into the side-chain path for enhanced frequency dependent compression. SC listen provides side-chain listening mode for monitoring.
The VT-747SP equalizer utilizes 100% discrete, Class A high-voltage transistors for optimum sonic performance. The six band stereo program EQ incorporates the smooth characteristics of an all-passive design. The EQ can be placed pre or post the opto-compressor for enhanced effects. The unit also features TSP (Twin Signal Path) which gives the user the choice of either tube tone, or the classic, Class A discrete transistor sound by exchanging, three high-voltage dual triode tubes with discrete amplifiers in the opto-compressor and primary output stages.

This combo box is a great piece of equipment, if you are looking for a silky sound. It's EQ sounds sublime in the top end, and the side chain on the compressor can be used for additional equalization, or as frequency specific compression, which is helpful as a de-esser. The compressor will not squash transients, and is best suited for subtle compression. If you are looking for a ballsy, in your face compressed sound, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a silky smooth sound, this is for you. Sound great on my Virus snow, and it adds a dream like quality to pads. The tube option definitely adds a bit of presence in the mids and high mids, and seems to slight reduce dynamics and boost the amplitude when engaged. The EQ can be place before or after the compressor, which is VERY handy. The compressor or EQ can be disengaged and used on their own as well. Try punching in the side chain listen button without triggering the compressor, and leaving the side chain button disengaged. This gives you two additional EQ bands. It is a hardwired stereo unit, but can be used for mono sources with the proper split cabling. Again if you are looking to add smooth silky quality to your track, this is for you. If you are looking for a beefy, fat sound, look elsewhere. Overall a great unit for what it does.
