DMX Expanders for LP-LED4 Lighting System

Yorkville Sound introduces two user-installable DMX modules for the popular LP-LED4 lighting system. Easy to install in the expansion port provided, the LP-DMX3 (3-pin XLR i/o) or LP-DMX5 (5-pin XLR i/o) allow full control of the convenient and compact LP-LED4 when integrated into complex lighting arrays and installations.

Technology
Each pod on the LP-LED2 and LP-LED4 emit a complete mixed colour, not an array of individual coloured LEDs that can be distracting to the audience or diminish a finished professional stage view. This also ensures the only light visible to the audience is the light chosen for the scene and not the LED elements.

The artist setting up scenes or the light designer building a set can see the colour being displayed in the pod, making lighting design as simple and straightforward as possible.

Light pods on LP-LED systems display a beam angle of +/- 13 degrees which projects approximately a four and a half foot diameter circle on a stage at 10 feet from the source.

LP-LED2 and LP-LED4 can be controlled by proprietary desktop (LP-C12) or floor (LP-C4) controllers direct connected to the light bars using standard XLR microphone cables. In simple effect and ambient lighting applications, LP-LED light bars can operate as standalone units with, colour chase and fades set directly on the bars themselves. For more complex applications, LP-LED lights can be incorporated into larger systems with optional user installed DMX3 and DMX5 cards.

Features:
• Available in either standard XLR 3-pin (LP-DMX3) or 5-pin (LP-DMX5) configurations
• Four DMX modes are available (4-channel, 8-channel, 12-channel and 20-channel modes).
• Nine position dip switch for DMX addressing
• Can be mapped to any DMX channel (up to 512)
• Can be easily user-installed to Yorkville LP-LED4 system
• Allows LP-LED4 to broadcast up to 10,000 colours

Purchased a pair of used LED2 bars from L&M. After using the Yorkville foot controller, I realized I wanted much more control and the ability to save scenes between gigs. One of the LED2 bars has this DMX expansion card installed, the other LED2 does not. So I set the DMX bar as channel 1 & 2, and set the non-DMX bar as channel 3 & 4, and connected them via an XLR cable on the Yorkville side of the bars. Then I set up the DMX address on the module, and plugged in a generic DMX controller. To my amazement, the DMX module controls both bars (as if they were a single LED4 bar). I was astonished that a product designed for the LED4 system was also designed to control two pairs of LED2 lights, even though I haven't found any documentation on line to even say this could be done. In reading the other review here, I also noticed the thin metal where the XLR connectors are attached to the DMX module. This is a reliability issue, so I make sure to brace the bracket when withdrawing the XLR cable... works like a charm and the cable comes out in seconds. In the future, a beefier plate would be welcome... this is why I rated quality a "6", even though the item works exactly like it should.

Although the unit functions as required the construction is extremely sub standard. #1-The XLR sockets don't release the XLR connectors after inserting them. At times I struggle for a few minutes trying to get them to release the XLR connector in fear that I will tear them away from the thin metalwork. #2-The metal that attaches the card is very, very thin which causes the metal to bend & bow whenever the connectors are removed or inserted. For such an expensive & well thought out LED system to have a poorly designed aftermarket optional component like this is not good for L&M's reputation. Much thicker (I stress thicker) metal and high quality XLR connectors are needed if this is to provide years of trouble free service.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
