I have a Les Paul Modern, and a Les Paul Standard, and while this is not in their league in features or fit/finish (nor price bracket) it is a perfect guitar for up at the cabin jam sessions. Even though it is completely bare bones, and does not have the maple top, It sound is shockingly true to a Gibson Les Paul. It will never replace my standard or modern, but a great low price option when you don’t not to bring out the more expensive gear

I wasn't sure if I would buy this as I really wanted the TV yellow special. I really wanted to have a guitar with P90's. I was aware of the fret board issue mentioned above. The store had 3 in stock. The other two this was very obvious. I got lucky that the one I wanted was good. I switched the strings to 9's and did a set up. The intonation is as good as you will get on a wrap around bridge. The neck is very straight and the relief is perfect. The finish varies on these guitars. The wood grain is visible on this one and this guitar is going to age very nicely I think. It sustains forever without help and I have been playing it mostly without any pedals. I am happy with it. I may think about getting a TV Yellow Special if they are back in stock. The neck is just a little chunkier on those, but maybe not. This guitar will grow on you.

This is my first Gibson USA guitar. Been an epiphone fan forever but just bought this guitar today because of the Gibson sale. 4/1/2021 and I am in love. The neck is perfect. Not to chunky not too slim the pickups are classic sounding p90's bright and dirty with the Gibson growl. Fit and finish was very good. The guitar I got was a 2020 model so maybe all the kinks were worked out based on previous reviews. I am completely enamoured by this guitar and it will be buried with me.

I bought this guitar in early December 2020 at the downtown Toronto store. I previously bought a LP Junior DC p90 in late 2018 and then traded it for a LP Special DC in late 2019, surprisingly both guitars played exceptionally well. The only adjustments I felt like making were the tuners, bridge and the filing down of sharp fret edges. Other than that, I kept it all original. One year later, I saw that Gibson released a LP Special in faded white, I was immediately hooked. So pulled the trigger like a typical impulsive guitar player, got home, tuned it, and plugged it in... The guitar was plek'd, the sharp fret edges were gone, the new bridge design kept it well intonated, and bending the strings was effortless (sort of like a PRS feel, that good). I noticed that the filing of the nut was done on an angle instead of straight. This means there is less friction from the string moving between the fretboard and tuning pegs. Also, the classic mini tuning keys work quite efficiently. Honestly, aside from the dry fretboard which I addressed, the quality, feel, look and sound blew me away. JC keeps improving Gibson as a brand, no doubt. I mean, I own other guitars (LP Classic and Custom 24) but I only end up playing the p90 guitars. The pickups respond well to almost anything so you won’t feel the need to replace the them, especially if you like distorted guitars. I recommend this guitar more than ever.

I owned this guitar for a few weeks before I returned it in dissatisfaction. By way of background, I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years and I own a 2016 Les Paul Studio and 2019 Les Paul Junior (neither have binding on the fretboards), which were both great value and I’ll never part with them. I made the mistake of buying this version of the Les Paul Special without first playing it in the store since I know how Les Paul Juniors/Specials should play and feel. HOWEVER, the fatal flaw with this guitar is that the width of the fretboard is a little skinnier than the neck, creating ridge/seam up and down both sides of the neck. It’s very apparent when you hold the neck in your hands. When I brought the guitar in for setup, I raised the issue with the sales associate and he assured me that it wasn’t a defect in my guitar - I inspected another one that happened to be hanging on the wall nearby and verified it had the same issue. A major manufacturing flaw like that on the neck is just unacceptable for a guitar at any price point. When I returned it a couple weeks later, the salesman told me there have been other complaints about the same issue. Don’t buy this guitar - there are much better quality Gibson Les Paul Special/Junior Tributes out there at a better price, like the 2019 or 2020 models, even though the double cuts with the massive pick guards aren’t as cool looking as this guitar.

Picked this up last week from Burlington Long and Mcquade, worn white with the P-90's, grabbed it off the wall on the display floor. The guitar is light and resonant, the P-90's sound high quality for a lower end Gibson model, the only complaint I have is that the fret ends are a little sharp and fretboard was really dry, easy things to fix but it would be nice if I didn't have to fix them.. I am really happy with it though, and even for a lower end model it definitely has Gibson quality materials (pickups, finish, woods used are all very nice). Would I buy it again now that I've had a week to play it and get to know it? You bet I would, in a heartbeat.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
