Swapping tubes the entire board flexes, this caused a break in one of the solder joints on the 12bh7a tube socket. The main board is held in place by 2 stand offs and the pots/jack putting further stress on the board near the pots. For the price you could do some research and build a better amplifier for less. If "ain't nobody got time for that" then put your money in to another amplifier cause either way this one is sub-par. If your keen the transformers are good if you want to convert to a 6n1n output tube.

I like this amp and It is quite easy to dial in a good clean tone with this amp, but there is not a lot of clean headroom. (which should be expected from a 5 watt head). strat sounds great I found it to be very quite as far as hum goes. even with the master and gain and guitar cranked and not touching the strings it is still very quite. i was imrpressed by the grounding in that regard The tone controls are interactive so when you turn down the treble it also turns up the bass. The distortion is bluesy/rock ish but no heavy grind to be had. which is fine but something to be aware of if that is what you are after. the built in attenuator is a nice touch. there are a few things I don't like about it like the tone controls get almost useless when you crank the gain up and it is quite bassy when cranked. (add an eq pedal up front or a booster with tone control) I wish they would have made the channels foot switchable. the redbox di sounds like mud big time. listen to samples and you will hear it. overall it is a great little amp that is well built and a good clean sound that you could use pedals on and shape from there.

This has become my favourite amp for practice and small gigs. Yes, at 5w, it will power a small gig no problem, and if more volume is required, I just push it through the PA -- the DI is one of the best I've heard. I like it best with single coil pickups -- with the gain in mid position, it's plays with a crisp twang; push up the gain and the sounds blooms and thickens, with the break-up point approaching gently. With double coils, you can push this to a beefy growl without trying. Wonderful.

Initially i thought i was being seduced by the cool blue backlight and amazing design of this unit but after research and a quick listen i realized this amp is special. I have a valve junior and while its a decent tube amp it only serves to show how brilliant the tubemeister is. The best word to describe the clean sound from this amp is that it shimmers. Its almost like a chorus or delay is built in because it has a stunning clean sound especially with single coils. I would trade redbox for reverb but thats just me. I cant wait to fully explore this amp and its capabilities its perfect for me a blues rock player who values simplicity. If you like a guitar plugged straight into a good tube amp that does clean and dirty sounds very well try this bad boy out. For 299$ i cant imagine finding a better option.

You can't beat this amp, at this price! Regardless of price, it has a good modern clean sound and a good heavy modern drive sound. I run a Lovepedal Eternity (tubescreamer clone) into it for ultimate heavyness. It's just great. Practice, headphones, into the PC, late night, whatever. Best practice amp I've had, and I've been at it a while. No issues so far. L&M always stand behind their products 100%+, so I am not worried. Now I am a Meister too....

I purchased this amp on sale at $299 which I thought was a good deal, and it would have been if it didn't die on me a couple weeks later. It is a nice sounding amp head with lots of gain on tap, comes with a DI and a great little carry bag. If I didn't read a few reviews about other people having the same issues as I did with mine, I would have gotten a replacement. Back to the search for now...

I have had this amp just shy of a year now and it is an amazing little amp. Out of the 5 watt lunch box amps it certainly isn't the most price efficient but it certainly has a ton of features that make it worth while. My main reason for purchasing this amp was silent recording via the red-box output, it makes recording a cranked amp easy at 3am in the morning. It is literally bomb proof, I have packed this amp in a back pack and hauled it 400km across BC last summer, not a single issue with it and that same journey killed one of my pedals. It has tons of gain and cleans up really nice depending on the channel. It is not the loudest of amps, it is only 5watts. My biggest beef is it doesn't have an effects loop but honestly that isn't a deal breaker. So far it has taken every pedal I have plugged into the front of it without any issues. I have yet to regret purchasing this amp it has served its purpose amazingly.

Performance Warranty Banner

Protect your investment with the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty

A warranty can be a very important factor when making a buying decision. Because repairs can be very expensive in terms of parts and labour costs, manufacturers usually only provide one year limited warranties that generally only cover items that malfunction due to a manufacturer’s defect. With an important purchase such as a musical
instrument or piece of studio gear, however, many people want to have the peace of mind in knowing that their investment will be protected should the product no longer be performing at 100%.

Because of this, Long & McQuade provides our customers with a FREE one-year Performance Warranty on most of our products. The Long & McQuade Performance Warranty supplements the manufacturer’s warranty to ensure that our customers receive complete “no hassle” warranty coverage within their first year.

How does the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty differ from most manufacturers' warranties?
  • Performance Guarantee: Normal wear and tear is covered, so your product will be performing as well as the day you purchased it for the entire duration of the coverage. Band and Orchestral Performance Warranty does not include replacing pads or cleaning for woodwind instruments, unless deemed necessary by our repair staff. Ultrasonic cleaning for brass instruments will be provided if deemed necessary by our repair staff, but is not routinely offered under the Performance Warranty.
  • Product Replacement: If your product cannot be fixed or costs too much to fix, we will replace it with the equivalent model for no additional charge. If this is not possible, a full refund will be provided.
  • No Lemon Policy: Your product will be replaced should the same problem occur multiple times.
  • Convenient: Easy drop off and pick up of the product at any Long & McQuade location.
  • Guitar Setup: Guitars purchased at Long & McQuade come with 1 free setup, to be redeemed within 1 year for new guitars and 90 days for used guitars.
  • Loaners Available: A loaner product may be given while the product is being repaired.
  • Power Surge Protection: Your product is covered even if damaged from a power surge.
  • Accessory Coverage: Any peripheral devices or accessories that come with your product (i.e. foot pedal, case) are also covered.
  • Commercial Use Coverage: Music and recording professionals who purchase gear for “heavy-use” commercial purposes will still be covered.

Long & McQuade reserves the right to restrict the purchase of additional years of Performance Warranty. Used products come with a 3-month Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Some products (i.e. computers, software, cymbals and other items) are covered only by the manufacturer‘s warranty. Consumables (i.e. strings, reeds, drum sticks, batteries, tubes, cross faders) are excluded as they are designed to be replaced. Cosmetic Damage, Accidental Damage, or problems caused by Humidity or Temperature Issues are not covered. Speakers damaged by overpowering are generally not covered. Our coverage does not provide compensation for loss of use. As of June 2018 the Performance Warranty is no longer transferable. The warranty is only valid in Canada.

Purchasing additional years of coverage

Some manufacturers provide warranties for longer than 1 year; however, these are usually limited warranties that do not provide the same coverage as the Long & McQuade Performance Warranty. Customers interested in more complete and convenient (but not necessarily longer) coverage are still able to purchase additional years of the Performance Warranty.

If you are interested in receiving this coverage for longer than one year, you have the option of purchasing additional years of the Performance Warranty. The pricing is as follows:

  • NEW products: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
  • USED products: 4% of the current new selling price to increase the warranty from 3 months to 1 year. 4% for each additional year.
  • GUITARS: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year. $45 maximum. An additional free setup is not included with additional purchased years of Performance Warranty.
  • BAND and ORCHESTRAL instruments: 4% of the current new selling price to double the warranty from 1 year to 2 years. 4% for each additional year.
