MESA SPAX7 preamp tubes are a premium grade 12AX7 that possess an even higher standard of overall performance due to their incredibly low sensitivity to microphonic noise. This is the ultimate preamp tube to use in critical gain stage applications, particularly in first stage/input positions or other high gain stages in the preamp tube string.

These tubes are selected during rigorous 12AX7 testing process and when found to be substantially more stable and quiet in extreme high gain applications, they are fitted with a shrink-wrap shielding, further stabilizing the tube and reducing external interference and noise. MESA SPAX7s deliver the lowest noise floor for the highest gain output. While not required for optimum performance, SPAX7s are a great tube to have on hand as spares and for any applications where the absolute lowest noise floor and low-microphonic response is needed.

All MESA tubes offer unsurpassed consistency and reliability for ANY tube amplifier, and certainly MESA amplifiers!

My Traynor YCV40 had its stock tubes (all 3 tubes were Sovtek 12ax7A) that I bought in 2005. It was time to change them. I wanted a dirtier sound and searched for info on the internet. So I use the GT-12AX7C in V1, to give the dirty tone I was looking for. In V2, right before the send effect loop, I put a Mesa-Boogie SPAX7, as recommended in another review. In V3 (inverter in some references, but called splitter in the Traynor manual) a Mesa-Boogie 12AX7 because I saw in a video that it was better if V3:a and V3:b signal have the same mV, which Mesa-Boogie tubes are supposed to be. I'm very satisfied with the dirty sound of th GT tube. This preamp tubes setup provides me with more color, and more nuances. A pitched harmonic was neatly hearable, which was nit the case with my old and tired stock tubes. I wrote all this information because I don't know how much this single tube is responsible for the change in my amp sound, but I strongly recommend this one.

Bought one of these to use in the front end of a used Mesa Blue Angel head. Used this with some Mesa 12ax7's and an at7 as phase inverter. Before retubing the amp was lifeless, was worried I bought a dud. Gave the amp a clean, loaded with the boogie tubes and wow. Great response, great low end, sparkle with a strat came back. Also brought back depth to the reverb which is a tube circuit. Maybe a bit on the pricey side but made all the difference. I'm going to look at these for my Marshall jcm900.
